Everyone is stocking up on their survival ammunition and getting their bug out bags organized. :)

I have no idea other than all the 22 ammo sold out very quickly during the last shortage. So I assume folks don't want to be caught unprepared again.

January 22, 2013, 06:16 PM
because there are rumors that 1,000 round limits are going to be put on ammo sales, which is only 2 bricks.

January 22, 2013, 06:30 PM
Those, and the ammo companies might have slowed production to concentrate on centerfire stuff.

But, yeah, I was at Gander Mountain the other day and, despite what they were calling an "ammo truckload sale", there was not a round to be found of .22LR stuff.

I might be wrong (its happened once before) but I see the 22 shortage as being due to 22's being the most common caliber. MOst people might not have a 223 or whatever but around here just about everyone owns a 22. Its also the most common plinking caliber bar none. So if ammo is going to be hard to find you stock up on what calibers you own, therefore a shortage on 22's.

Now that center fire ammo is so expensive, I know I am going to be using me .22"s alot more. I just can't afford to shoot 30-30 for an hour or two. But I can go with the .22.

combo of potentially legitimate fear of banning bulk buying, panic buying, and............ centerfire prices going way up.....5.56(.223) at $0.50 to over a buck a round. i'm gonna guess allot of folks like me are only shooting .22lr until the supply comes back to normal and hopefully prices as well. i'm not replacing my 5.56 stash at $1.00 a round. it will sit and i will be shooting .22lr for fun.

January 22, 2013, 06:49 PM
I hope you are stocked up jhb.

Maybe because everybody and their sister owns at least one .22 LR, so when the rush started, it got wiped out. It will be back soon. They are making it as fast as they can.

.22 LR is the least expensive ammunition you can buy, and you can store a lot of it in a small place. You can also carry a lot of it on your person and not have it show. At short distances it will work as a defensive round.

Last but not least firearms chambered to use it are common, and relatively inexpensive. :uhoh:

JUMP on it when you see it. Got to start looking at ammo like a dog does food: don't know when more will come along so even if you don't need it NOW, you will need it.

Yep, I started stocking up a few months ago. I paid $15-$16 / 500 and 550 packs and they are now 3 times that.Even with my oldest boy coming to work for me, we'll never run out!:)

I don't think so. That's the first I've heard of that and I try to follow such things. Joe Blow ain't paying that much attention.

I think people are buying .22 ammo since they are concerned about NOT being able to buy their centerfire ammo, so they buy .22 to still be able to shoot.

Heck with the ammo, check out how many 22LR handguns are missing from the shelves; I was just in a Cabelas without ANY Ruger Mark III's, 22-45's,Single Sixes, or Browning Buckmarks!

It doesn't make any sense what so ever, but unfortunately all it takes are a couple of uninformed jags to clear a couple stores and that's the start of it.

22 mag is out where I live as well as 22lr.

And tomorrow I get my 10,000 rounds of .22lr that is part of a group buy

The high speed communication age is a double edged sword.

I think you'll be seeing more 22 ammo in the coming month, but it really depends on what happens in Washington.

January 22, 2013, 09:20 PM
You can really hang onto the centerfire ammo if you have lots of .22 to plink, train, and feed yourself with. The run on .22 makes sense in that regard.

January 22, 2013, 09:24 PM
Ammo is in very short supply here but you can pick up plenty of .22 handguns. In fact they are among the few handguns left on the shelf.

January 22, 2013, 09:26 PM
The 22's are gone too.

January 22, 2013, 09:26 PM
I'm guessing that, when push comes to shove, people just want ammunition they can go out and target shoot with. With most other types of ammunition so scarce right now, .22 is what they grab.

January 22, 2013, 09:28 PM
This ammo shortage is just an inconvenience. I remember when there was NO ammo. Also no new guns, cars, trucks, tires. batteries, and lots of other stuff for the duration. All domestic production was redirected toward the war effort practically overnight.

January 22, 2013, 09:30 PM
It's those evil black guns now in 22 LR. With so many of them eatting up globs of ammo, we were going to run out. Now if they only had 5 round mags we'd be ok. (LOL)

You haven't seen the prices here. ,$80 for a 325 round box of CCI. At that rate I can sell 550 count boxes for $146.30. Wonder if I can get any takers at that price.

January 22, 2013, 11:24 PM
I got 1000 rds of Winchester Super X . They are hard as hen's teeth nowadays, so get them if you see them. I love .22 LRs.

January 22, 2013, 11:28 PM
I do too, but those Winchester Super X jam my Colt .22 something terrible. Blazers it will eat all day long.
