I've been on an email list for Richard Nagy who is goes by Datamancer for his business. He makes custom "steampunk" stuff, think old looking new stuff like what you see in Dr Who. A while back (a year of so?) he started playing with making a 10 round Mosin Nagant, and he succeeded. You can see his videos on YouTube (I would link them but I'm on a dinosaur computer that is extremely limited) from initial mockup to working prototype. And yes, he does rattle off 10 live rounds trouble free.

What he came up with is not exactly what we would consider a detachable magazine. What it is is an extention of the internal magazine. The separator design on the Mosin would make it difficult to convert it to a true detachable mag. What he came up with is a design for which you remove the original floorplate and spring and attach this 5 round extension to the original latch. It does not require any modifications to the rifle and converts back in seconds, so even you purists could run it. The tough part was developing a spring system that would feed the extra travel.

Well, he has a patent on the design and had intended to produce them but is busy running his custom shop. So he sent out an email to those of us on his list stating that he is looking for someone to produce them for sale. He will provide 3D CAD diagrams, specs, and working prototypes to whoever decides to take it on. Evidently he is just looking for a small percentage for licensing the use of his patent.

Unfortunately this is not what I do and I am busy running my own business (auto repair). My interest in this is simply as a consumer. I want to see this thing come to market so I can buy a couple. Any fabricators out there want to check it out? Could be a nice side project or a fun new business opportunity. PM me an email address and I'll forward his email to you or you can look him up yourself. I've talked to him thru his main business, look up Datamancer. His side project site is Mosinmag.com, but that appears to just be a placeholder. Somebody PLEASE make this a reality!

The design is now going to have to compete with Archangel's. Could be good for the consumer in the end.

Now if he could just replace the original bolt mechanism with some sort of auto feeder such that you wound up with a 91/30 semi-auto in 7.72x54r

hehehe just dreaming out loud.

I also am on the list and got the email. I have been waiting two years for him to produce the mag extensions, it would definitely complete my mosin scout project. Perhaps an out of work machinist could take this on? Maybe someone who works with polymers could make the mag body while someone else makes the spring?
After seeing the new Archangel stock with its detachable mag, I was disappointed. I had already paid for and received a custom stock for my project, didn't want to throw it away and spend more money, so I was counting on Datamancer and his 10 rd mags. Hope someone takes on the job......

I was also on the mailing list.

I'm not terribly disappointed because of the new archangel stock and detachable mag.

And I'm probably going to sell my Mosin, anyway.

Holy crap, never saw that before. Thinking I'll go that way. I have the Promag Archangel Deluxe on my target 10 22, it's awesome. Now if Red Jacket would just ship my ZK22 stock...

Could be possible but it would require adding a gas system. There was one guy that made semi auto conversions for many different bolt actions way back in time when the semi auto was replacing the bolt gun.

Hmm, that might be a tall order. On the other hand, I bet someone could pull off a Pedersen device for the mosin, chambered in say... 7.62x25?

Want a semiautomatic 7.62x54r? Buy a svt40

I have also been on the waiting list for this 10rd Mosin mag. I guess we'll have to see if anyone takes on the project in his place. I'll ask a couple of people in my area who may have the equipment for this task.

If its been patented the specs are online.
Just do a search on google patents & you'll have everything you and the competition needs to make your own. With the patents being published online now it just makes it that much easier for the competition to steal your designs. It's best now just to skip the patent and flood the market

...and get sued. That's kind of the point of patents.

I searched for "Mosin-Nagant" in any field and couldn't find a patent for this, though oddly enough there are four Mosin-related patents:

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't that only if you try and make money off it?

patents are a joke & have been for many years.
All it takes is a few small alterations on the design to bypass your patent.
that's why it's best to just flood the market. You also have to defend your patent or you loose it.
most just stamp patent applied for or patent pending when they have no intentions of patenting the design just so the home builder won't try to build their own
