Check out the photo illustration in this New York Daily News story (http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/text-message-helps-police-pinch-gun-toter-article-1.1245788) with the caption "A close up view of a handgun..."
Uh, yeah, I'm pretty sure that's a squirt gun.
Gotta love the media; they're always so knowledgeable about firearms.

Wow. Too bad there is no place to comment.

That's NY for ya, guilty until proven innocent. As I read the article, I was so hoping this guy had a CCW license.

and a .38-caliber Smith & Wesson revolver that had five live rounds and a spent shell

So does the spent shell count against his 7rd limit?

I vote we sell New York back to England. This brings back memeories of the story of the BATFE seizing Airsoft guns and claiming they could be converted into machine guns. I realize they are counting on us to be stupid but this is kinda way out there.

You do realize they seized real guns, and this is just a case of someone grabbing a stock photo to use for the story without knowing what they were doing, right?

Wow, how indicative of the current climate is it that he's referred to as "the gunman" even though he wasn't shooting or threatening anyone? I know you can be charged if someone spots your CCW and feels threatened (something which I think is totally bogus, but there you go), but I love it that now anyone with a gun, at all, is considered "the gunman". Just a bit ridiculous, but it is NY.

I'm just curious what a ".9mm" gun is. That must be a small round.

I read the article, and I get it that the photo is not of either of the guns he apparently had. I was more observing that in the past in order to be called "the gunman" one had to actually be perpetrating some form of violence or crime; now it seems just having a gun makes you a gunman. Overreacting to say the least, and just furthering the demonization of any citizen who chooses to arm themselves. Now that being said he was carrying illegally, but I've spent enough time in NYC to know that there are guns EVERYWHERE and that more often than not they are carried for protection. Just know that I'm not against the way that NY handles this stuff without a reason.

EDIT: And it shows terrible journalistic oversight that they couldn't even find a picture of a real gun on the internet..

Yes, I read it. Seem like an appropriate response given that there is almost zero chance that a guy riding a bus in NYC has a permit for a gun.

Yes, they grabbed a stock photo of a squirt gun from Getty. Yes, that is what I am suggesting that you email the author about.

Yes, they should use a different word than gunman, but it is the NY Daily News. What do you expect?

The story said the S&W was loaded. a complete lack of detail on the supposed 9mm. could have been a tear gas gun, we just don't know.

Probably a grenade launcher, since those are easy for people to get nowadays according to some...

It is a stock image. We have far more important things to be worrying about right now than if the stock image in a news story is correct. The msm has no idea what a firearm is, no news there.
