200 grain bullets in my Ruger .308

So I'm trying to find some data for some 200 grain bullets for my Ruger M77 in .308. I believe my twist rate is 1/10, this M77 was manufactured in 68' so not sure. Is it recommended for this heavy a bullet or larger? And if you guys have any load data for this particular round that would be great, not sure what powder would be best either, I was thinking Varget. I posted this in the rifle section too, not sure where it belonged.

I tried different rounds in my 308. The best performance was a 165 gr bullet. Sorry, can't help you on the 200.

I've done quite a bit of time searching for this data online, with little success.

The .308 really doesn't have enough case capacity to efficiently use that heavy a bullet.

Thats why there isn't much load data for bullets heavier then 180 grain.

In actual fact, there really is no advantage to using that heavy a bullet anyway with todays bonded & partition bullet technology.
They shoot flatter, hit hard, and penetrate deeper then the old-school 200 & 220 .30 cal's.


If you insist, the lyman #49 manual has .308 load data for 110, 125, 130, 150, 155, 165, 168, 175, 178, 180, 190, & 200 jacketed bullets.

As well as 115, 160, 170, 173, 180, 190, & 200 grain cast bullets.

Ram also used to have data for 200gr...got it in my notes. Their website now goes up to a 190gr bullet...go figure.
