I walked out of my lgs with a Sig P220 elite dark tonight and I must say that without having fired it yet that I am in love. It feels amazing in my hands and the night sights are incredibly bright. I'm not really keen on the price at $950 before tax considering it was a also a display model so who knows how many times its been dry fired but I've been wanting that model for awhile now and finally gave in. I wish it could hold a couple more rounds but I believe I've seen extended mags for it so no real worry there. All in all I'm feeling pretty good about the purchase.

I wish it could hold a couple more rounds It holds 8, which is one more then a 1911 that fought two world wars and too many "other" wars and too many "police actions" to count over 74 years.

Learn to shoot it, and 7 rounds will leave you with about 4-5 left over per gunfight.

Yeah and a musket held 1 round but you don't see people still bragging about that after hundreds of years of use....

nice gun OP, gratz

The only issue that really worries about this gun are the many, many reports of the rear adjustable coming lose after very few rounds. I'm hoping that doesn't happen.

Dry firing wont hurt it. if it was dry fired in the LGS think of it as helping you break in the mating surfaces.

Sorry for the quality of the pic and I'm not sure what the scuffing on the slide is towards the muzzle...it's not there in real life!

Very nice!

Ryno31. I have not had a issue at all. Only think I don't like about it, is the safety will dig in after carrying it all day. Mite file it down. Other the. That. I love it.

Did they start offering it as a SAO?

Yes, mine is a Sao. Controls just like a 1911

Is that the compact version? Ive been wanting a Beavertail without Rail and the compact is the only version I ran across...

In Sigs infinite wisdom to issue 5 thousand versions of the same gun, makes it sort of hard to figure out what exactly was available through the years.

Congratulations. I'm sure you'll be very happy with it.

I bought a 220 Carry Elite Dark about a year ago. From your picture, it looks like you have the "Carry" model also (3.9" barrel).

My rear sight did come loose during the first range trip. But I carefully tightened it back down with the little allen wrench that came with the gun, and it hasn't come loose again in hundreds of rounds.

It looks like you got the version with the stubby beavertail. Mine has a very large sweeping beavertail, more like a modern tactical 1911. I don't know when Sig made the change. Various stock photos from around the internet show both versions of the beavertail on the 220 Elites.

Yes, Sig does make some extended 10-round magazines with a plastic sleeve adapter.

The only 2 "complaints" I have with this firearm are both magazine issues:

1. They are expensive!
2. The current 8 and 10-round stock 220 magazines made by Sig don't fit some of the longer hollow point ammo. See this thread:

That's a fair deal for a really nice pistol. Got a 220 carry on layaway and it is hard to wait! let us know how she shoots!

1. Take a look at the magazines offer by Act-Mag. I have a box full that I got for ~$20
2. Not much you can do about that, they weren't designed to feed those slugs
