Has anybody experienced delay of the tax stamp since Sandy Hook?

I'm curious if anybody has noticed any noticible delays in getting their tax stamps approved and sent to them since the incident in Newtown?
You would think that if the Gov is trying to ban these firearms, they would figure out a way to slow things down or bring them to a screeching halt in the past month or so.
I'm looking into buying a Sten MG from my gunsmith, and I'm a bit concerned about any delay tactics the BATFE might be using.

Any word?

regards,
Gearchecker

No...no reason to go full-on paranoid just yet. :) The BATFE may be a little backed up, what with folks scrambling all over the country to buy any darned thing having to do with a gun, but there has been no directive issued (and likely COULDN'T be) to tell the BATFE to stall on processing Form 4s.

Nope, it is just as slow as usual. The new examiner assistants were supposed to speed things up, but it seems like they are just really good at finding what they believe are errors.

I have a M10/45 that went pending in August. It went into error status on the 23rd because "the signature on one of the form 4s looks like it might be a photocopy". Oh well, hopefully the seller will correct it quickly and it will be approved soon.

As for the Sten, the new bill proposed in the senate makes no mention at all of actual machineguns, just the semi-automatic lookalikes. Even if it passed (doubtful), it wouldn't effect the transfer of the MG, just stock up on mags, just in case.

Yes, ATF kicked some of my form 4's back because I used my "legal" not my "trade" name. I have approved form 4's with my legal name and I have personal items with "LLC" after the business name.

I guess the 6 month wait was going too fast, they had to find another reason to kick a form 4 back. Glad I use a form flow program where all I have to plug in is the customers information.

Lots of Form 4s are getting kicked back. The new examiners are being extra thorough about minute details. It's not a conspiracy though, they're just a little rusty.

I got mine last week and I'm in CT of all places. Approved January 8th 2013.

I just received one yesterday. Approved in the normal 6 month average.

Why would tax stamps be delayed because of a mass shooting? Unless you buy into some paranoid fantasy that our government is secretly effective and that orders from on high could somehow slow the pace of bureaucracy for nefarious purposes without us hearing about it...

The people doing the examining are low-paid bureaucrats. Average people. They wouldn't keep their mouths shut if they suddenly got mysterious orders to be intentionally slower at their jobs.

I suppose the only possibility is that more people would apply for stamps in the wake of the shooting in the same way that more people bought guns. But that doesn't slow the pace of work for stamps that are already submitted. You won't notice a slowing in approval times until 6 months from when people began submitting more forms... that's when the extra work would catch up to the examiners.

It's too soon to say for me, but on Dec 2 I mailed in my form 1 for a DD project I finally got off the ground. It went pending on Dec 21, which is wicked soon compared to my other projects, and I've called a couple times to verify it's progress. Still pending as of last week.

i think it has sped up in my experience. i got an error letter a week short of 5 months on a Form 4. If I hadn't misplaced a "the", i would have been 5 months to approval. As it is, im looking at 5 months and 1 week.

Both the dealers I shop with told me that it's slow as usual. One of them did say that their getting more picky and making sure everything is correct.

Form 3 delays have not really changed according to my data. There was a week or two added due to holiday delays.

Trust for Form 1 SBR mailed on 7/20/12 and received stamp at end of Jan. 2013 so about 6 months.
