Rollis R. Karvellis January 29, 2013, 06:03 PM Don't worry it is on the list, and for the very reason you mentioned.
Dr. Sandman January 29, 2013, 06:11 PM That rifle has many legitimate uses. Does the left handed nature of the gun decrease the value?
CmdrSlander January 29, 2013, 06:12 PM The proposed AWB in Illinois that was defeated made no distinction between semi-automatic and manual action arms in that it also attacked pump action firearms (though bolt and lever were exempt at that time).
If the Texas Tower shooting or a similar incident happened again today you would, without a doubt hear calls to limit the magazine capacity and optical zoom factor of bolt action rifles.
After all, no one needs a 25x scope with finger turrets to kill a deer!
jmorris January 29, 2013, 06:13 PM I imagine the optic will be banned before the rifle.
CmdrSlander January 29, 2013, 06:14 PM That rifle has many legitimate uses. Does the left handed nature of the gun decrease the value?
I counsel you to remember that all rifles have many legitimate uses. "Fun" (aka "recreation") is and always has been a legitimate use under the law. That rifle is no more legitimate than an AR15 or, for that matter, a registered (or converted to semi-auto) M2HB.
CmdrSlander January 29, 2013, 06:16 PM I imagine the optic will be banned before the rifle.
yep. Anything bigger than 4x and certainly anything with illumination or a mil-dot reticule will be a "military sniper scope" the second somebody decides to go out by climbing a tall building with a hunting rifle and taking shots at the folks below.
littlelefty January 29, 2013, 06:53 PM Wow! That's a beautiful rifle!
adelbridge January 29, 2013, 09:36 PM I saw a 'high powered rifle" just like that on CNN
jim243 January 29, 2013, 09:45 PM Nice rifle, really nice. But you have the bolt on the wrong side (LOLOL)
Jim
doc540 January 29, 2013, 09:48 PM That's the Louisiana model. ;)
ExAgoradzo January 29, 2013, 09:50 PM OK, I'm an idiot...
What does EBSR really stand for...the net doesn't know...or I didn't look in the right place.
Thanks,
Greg
jim243 January 29, 2013, 09:53 PM Just a wild guess, but Enhanced Bolt action Sniper Rifle.
Jim
ExAgoradzo January 29, 2013, 09:57 PM I think you have the E and the R right, at least that's what I guessed from EBR.
S is probably right too, I was just looking for better than a guess...

Walkalong January 29, 2013, 10:20 PM EBSR - Evil Black Sniper Rifle . ;)
doc540 January 30, 2013, 07:56 PM First time to shoot it today.
20-30mph north wind gusts
sighted it in using Wammart 55gr .223
shot at 25, then 75, then 100yds
between gusts it would shoot nickle size groups at 100yds
This has the makings of another fun habit. :)
B!ngo January 30, 2013, 09:06 PM Left handed. My kind of peeps.

Not for a Southpaw like myself!
Hunter125 January 30, 2013, 10:53 PM Didn't that already happen around DC several years ago? Some sniper wannabe was taking pot shots at cars on the highway or something like that. I guess things might be different if it happened in today's political climate.
allaroundhunter January 30, 2013, 10:56 PM Ha! Mine isn't black (anymore) :p

rodinal220 January 31, 2013, 08:54 AM They want all the guns, including your Daisy Red Ryder.
Flatbush Harry January 31, 2013, 09:13 AM Let's see...IIRC, the Second Amendment reads, "A well regulated wildlife herd, being unnecessary to anyone but rednecks, the right of some people to keep and bear arms suitable for one shot efforts at killing, shall not be infringed until we, the coastal liberals led by 'Mayors Against All, er, Illegal, Firearms' infringe all the other gun rights that those foolish rednecks are too disorganized to protect. Then we'll get their churches"
Yup, I'm pretty sure that's how it reads.
FH, normally leaving all but the Second Amendment to the ACLU but rethinking that strategy
gunsandreligion January 31, 2013, 12:01 PM I saw a whole article about how only one shot is needed for the majority of murders. Which proof the the author used to point out we need to get rid of all guns. Not realizing he just was explaining why baseball bats are more dangerous than guns.
.455_Hunter January 31, 2013, 12:36 PM Be careful allaroundhunter!
Some folks might think you are trying to damage those power lines...

This very sort of thing happened in the Detroit area just a few months ago.
I don't recall if they ever mentioned the type of gun used. only one individual was injured as I recall.
I got my EBSR a couple weekends ago.
corky52 February 19, 2013, 08:13 PM Mine is not black. So, am I safe?

CApighunter February 19, 2013, 08:51 PM Corky- is that a Savage 10 Precision Carbine? I have been looking at getting one in .308 since they first came out. How do you like yours?

mjw930 February 19, 2013, 09:12 PM Doc,
I just got a Savage 12 BTCSS early January in .223 and found the same thing, bullet wise. I don't load but I have a place I buy from that will make up combos to try. They sent me some 55gr V-Max with 24.5gr of Varget to try. I have a safe full of PMC 55gr .223 that runs through my AR's like butter but the Savage absolutely hates it. 1" spacing at 50 yards and 4" high and right from POA. I was thinking I had a bad rifle until I ran 2 three round groups of the 55gr custom V-Max down range and literally made 2 ragged holes, one from each group of 3. The next time out I tried a string of 55gr Hornady Superformance and it was literally all over the target at 100 yards. Don't waste money on hot, light loads in this rifle, it hates them.
I'm new to target rifle shooting and had heard about how sensitive some rifles can be to ammo but never experienced it like I have with the Savage. Deadly accurate with one round and barely on paper with another......
corky52 February 19, 2013, 09:13 PM Yep, Mdl 10 PC in .308. I love it. There are days that I think it should have an additional 2" on the barrel. Then I shoot a string, and ask why? It shoots better than I do. I was leary about the Accustock, but I have it dialed in now. It is pretty stable, all things considered. With the short barrel (20") it has a bit of a bounce off of the bipod. Using the sling and snapping in well seems to solve that though. Shooting offhand with the 20" barrel is a dream. It also took a while for the ACU camo to speak to me. The original black finish on the metal was a stark contrast. Painting the metal olive and the Turner sling in green took care of that.

Duly noted!
Rollis R. Karvellis February 21, 2013, 09:24 AM The two muslim extremist who were shooting up DC used a Bushmaster AR.
The clown who was taking pot shot's from the over passes in Columbus Ohio, was using a Beretta 92, of some flavor. The one woman who was killed was just dumb bad luck.
The Detroit Shooting I, didn't hear about, so I, can't comment on the weapon.
The fun part about this sport is the discovery's of what work, and what dose not.
MCgunner February 21, 2013, 10:20 AM "Cept for the caliber, NICE rifle! My Savage is in 7mm Rem Mag. It's taken a few head of game, a mulie out at 370 yards being my longest. I don't shoot game much further and the conditions have to be right. :D Mine's a 20 year old 110 topped with a Weatherby Supreme 3x9x44 and it shoots about 1 MOA at best. It's kinda builet picky, likes 150 Game Kings and 160 Nosler Partitions and RL22 powder. I tried a LOT of combinations in the gun to find the right one. I've shot ONE store bought round through it, guy gave me a box of Federal Premium 160 Nosler partitions. It shot well with that. If I had to use factory ammo, I'd go that round, but they're expensive. I'd rather handload for it, of course.
Ain't no prairie dogs around here.
doc540 February 21, 2013, 06:21 PM only chose that caliber for commonality of ammo with my SBR
thanks

My friends and I have also been talking about this for a long time. CA went after the 50 cal ones a decade or so ago.
doc540 February 25, 2013, 09:45 PM Thanks
I concentrated on being more precise and consistent with my powder throws with this batch.
better, but a long way to go

doc540 February 25, 2013, 09:59 PM It's the Limited Edition "Cajun" model. ;)
Steel Horse Rider February 25, 2013, 10:08 PM Now where is that guy who was ranting a few months ago about anyone posting pictures of a target shot with a stock Savage? If I recall he was a non-believer........
doc540 February 25, 2013, 10:29 PM Really?
Well, here's a few targets, each with a different powder load at 100yds from a stock Savage and, of course, from a rookie shooter.

tech30528 February 25, 2013, 11:04 PM Mmmmm. Got to love an EBSR. The smell of burned powder and a bit of #9, just makes you want to get comfortable and be very still for a while.
