Have you ever heard of a 250gr 45acp bullet? I ordered some 230gr 45acp's RN from an on line vendor. When I opened up the box, I noticed that what I got were flat nose. I thought they looked a little large so I weighed one of them and it weighed about 250gr. I thought maybe it was a freak thing so I weighed a few more and they all that I checked weigh 250gr. How can I even be sure they are 45acp and not 45 Colt The vendor I got them from offers a 250 gr Colt so I wonder if he got them mixed up.

What do you make of this?

I'll have to check it when I get home, I am at work. I think both 230gr 45acp and 250gr Colt are both supposed to be .452 if I'm not mistaken.

Do the 250gr bullets have a crimp groove ?
Are these bullets cast, plated or Cu jacketed ?

Yes, they have a crimp groove and they are cast bullets

If they have a crimp groove they are revolver bullets.

They sent you .45 Colt bullets by mistake.

I think they are for 45 Colt. I would send them back, or buy a new gun.
Do you Know someone who reloads for 45 Colt ?

From my understanding 45acp is .451 and 45lc is .452.

Jacketed bullets are .451" for .45 ACP & .452" for .45 Colt.

Lead bullets like the OP ask about would be sized .452" for both .45 ACP and .45 Colt.
Unless they are .454" for .45 Colt.

Yes, the vendor I got them from has 45 Colt and 45acp for sale and both are listed at .452

I've loaded 250-255gr .452" bullets in my .45acp.
No big deal. Just make sure they are seated deep enough and that they feed before you head to the range. Also, powder charge will be lower.

My Springfield Armory 1911 feeds them fine. Accuracy was "so-so". I was looking to see how close I could come to duplicating the .45Colt from the .45acp. Pretty close, as it turns out. Recoil was "annoying" however....

Turns out I, like John Browning found out that 200gr bullets at 900-1,000fps is about ideal in the .45acp. He tried for several years to get Uncle Sam to reconsider the 230gr RN bulllet.....
If it's only 100 bullets, I'd load and shoot them. If it's 1,000 or more, I'd discuss with vendor sending them back in exchange for what you wanted.

I had some old style Ranier 250(5?) Gr .45 Colt bullets and shot quite a few in .45 ACP. There is some data out there for heavy bullets in .45 ACP. I used W-231.

Yes, I've tried 250 gr bullets, 452 dia. I made up my own load data by shorting the powder charge for 230gr and working cautiously up.

It beats up the gun (Glock 21) pretty good... I was loading with Unique. The timing was wrong though. When I shot them, I could literally feel the slide hanging back for a bit of time, before chambering the next round. It was weird, kind of a "ka-CHUNK" feel to the cycling.

I don't know if I'd repeat the experiment with that powder - still have about 20 or so of them sitting in a box waiting to get pulled, to get reloaded and fed through my 45 colt. :)

I've found that the .001 doesn't really matter much, jacketed or not.

I've shot tons of jacketed 230gr SWC .452 dia bullets without protest from all of my 45's (except the XD, won't feed them.)

The only concession I had to make was shorting my powder charge from the 451 dia 230gr load I usually use by .2 gr.
