Hey guys,

I need a case to use for transporting my Ruger Super BlackHawk Bisley Hunter with a red dot sight on top.

What do you guys use/recommend?

I use a pelican case, but you probably have a long barrel on that baby.

Yea I do. It's 13" long and 7.5" tall with the red dot sight.

I use a Pelican 1450 case. It is about the size of a large briefcase and a bit thicker, but it gives me ample room for my SBH Hunter with Red Dot on top + all of the stuff I would need to keep the gun running at the range or in the field.

I can actually put 3 fullsize big bores in that case at once and still have room for a cleaning kit, ear plugs, a small tool kit, extra ammo.

Plano and Doskocil both make plastic cases that are well padded and cheap.

I may go with this one:

I would highly advise against any case with a metal exterior.

While the metal may look nice and appear strong, in my experience a metal case will come apart long before a plastic case will. Why do you think the military uses Pelican cases?

As an example, I have a hunting buddy who bought an expensive aluminum double rifle case. It looked like it was built like a tank. After just 2 years of airline handling and normal loading and unloading it looked awful, some of the rivets had started to loosen up and at least one of the corner protectors had been sheared off (by the airline). Broken latches and a sprung hinge.
As a comparison my cheap Plano case is still serviceable and is as good as the day I bought it, and it has seen essentially the same handling (including being flung off of a moving baggage cart onto the tarmac at the airport....I saw it happen and nearly s**t myself)

If you have the cash, the Pelican cases are just about indestructible. If not, I would go for one of the less expensive but sturdy Plano or Doskocils.

Cabelas - Aluminum "Bulletproof" Pistol cases are
14" x 10" x 4" - Marine quality aluminum body with
the ends cut off at a 45 deg. angle then welded up
so the luggage handling gorilla has less chance of
dinging a corner and stainless steel hasps to lock
em down. It draws nice compliments at the range.

It's how I transport my S&W revolvers.- the case is a
small price compared to the cost of the guns.

Pelicans are nice, but pricey.

Check out Harbor Freight.

It just depends what you mean by "transport"? Transport to the range or transport as baggage in airlines.... some of the no name plastic cases with egg shell foam should work well with your 44.
