I just picked up a Pietta Remington 44. Can anyone tell me what the thread size is of its' nipples and what size ball is best?

I can't help you much on the nipple size because I have never owned a Pietta. My Euroarms remington uses a number ten cap. I think that most do but I know that there are exceptions.

I have a friend that has a Pietta 44 remington and his shoots a .454 ball. Mine shoots a .457. I think that most Remingtons shoot the .454. I have heard of the rare exceptions that shoot a .451

I would start with the .454 ball.

If you can't contact the company that sold the gun, Dixie Gun Works (www.dixiegun.com) sells just about all sizes of nipples and should know what size that revolver takes. Also check www.trackofthewolf.com and www.pietta.it/fap_pre_2.htm. The latter site shows an interesting machine, though I can't quite tell what is being made.

Some of the repros were made to take Colt nipples, but some are metric.
