Homeland Security Tip: Fend Off Shooter With Scissors
Video provides advice on protection in a mass shooting

The Department of Homeland Security has released a video advising Americans on how to deal with a mass shooting—and some of its tips have the New York Post scratching its head. For instance, the video suggests that "if you are caught out in the open and cannot conceal yourself or take cover, you might consider trying to overpower the shooter with whatever means are available" ... and then shows a man arming himself with scissors.

A number of active shooters have been stopped by people tackling the gunman or using whatever weapon is at their disposal.

I get what you mean, a pair of scissors isn't a gun. Better than nothing though.

I'm betting that if an active shooter was killing people in an office building and some office worker was able to tackle the shooter, get on top of them and started stabbing away with a pair of scissors in their neck/throat and eyes that would pretty much stop the attack.

Getting close enough would be the issue. Most people would be better off running and/or hiding.

Does this remind anyone else of the Monty Python "self defense class" skit?

John Cleese instructs one of the students to come after him with a banana to show how to defend yourself against being attacked by a banana. As the student rushes towards him, he pulls out a handgun and shoots him.

Obviously, DHS are not fans of British comedy.

I need to get some new assault scissors. I wonder if Hogue has come out with a pistol grip for them yet?
