How about a favicon for THR?

February 2, 2013, 01:09 AM
The current THR favicon (that little symbol you see in the browser tab when you go to THR) is the default vBulletin logo.

Shouldn't THR have its own unique favicon? I think so...

How about one of these?

Of course those are 64x64 and the actual would be 16x16.

Here is a .zip with the PNG, ICO (which is what you'd actually use), and PSD for each...

Sorry to take so long on this. I got busy, then it fell off the to-do list.

Thanks for the contribution. It's up now. :)

Excellent idea, raindog.

Derek, shouldn't we be seeing the icon? I still get the default vB icon. (Tried two different browsers just in case.)

I'm seeing it here.

Hit control-F5?

Mal H
February 12, 2013, 05:18 PM
Nope, that didn't do it. (I had already hard refreshed the page.)

February 12, 2013, 05:32 PM
I am not seeing it on my browser's tab for this page either

Looks like it was cached on the CDN (no idea why I didn't get stuck with the old one.)

Try it now.

No joy.

Well, I've got the new one in Chrome, and the old one in IE.

I'll check again in the AM.

February 12, 2013, 08:04 PM
I see the new one after CTRL+F5 (chrome)

Same as you, no joy in IE.

Do the browsers request the same file? Are they expecting the same format?

Should work either way - it's in .ico format, which should be universal.

I looked at the cache and it didn't purge when I thought. I tried dumping everything from the CDN and we'll see if that clears up over the next hour or so.

Same result here - yes for Chrome, no for both IE and Firefox.

As an experiment in Firefox, I turned off Tools -> Options-> Content -> Load images automatically, and the icon showed up! It should have been the opposite effect. Of course I lost all the other buttons and icons, so I can't leave it that way.

[Edit 2]
I turned Load images automatically back on, and the vB logo is back so it wasn't a fluke. Something is 180o out of whack concerning the icon image and how/when it is displayed. Maybe the vB icon is overlaying the THR icon.

Now that I've seen it, the logo itself isn't very recognizable. Maybe the "THR" needs to be diagonal and in a larger font.

Still not working for IE.

February 14, 2013, 03:35 PM
haha... like I tell my IS department when on my XP computer with IE8 - Why dont we try a modern OS and browser?

February 14, 2013, 04:32 PM
Odd, today I fired up chrome, and it went back to the old icon.

CTRL+F5, it went to the new one.

OK, well I tried purging the old file from the CDN again.

I'm not hopeful, but try it again and we'll see.

THR logo now appearing (162300FEB2013S) under Firefox.

Like the look--kudos & congrats to our hard-working mods!

February 17, 2013, 04:43 PM
Still doesn't work for me.

The vB changed to an IE in IE.
It's still the vB in Firefox and Google Chrome.

February 17, 2013, 07:56 PM
In ful fairness, I have cleared (using ccleaner) my FF cache, and dumped all the cookies (other than my THR login--it's excluded using the ccleaner Tools).
Due to our "friends" at M$ releasing a raft of Updates, I've also been through two Restart cycles.
So, I've got a nifty green-on-white favicon.
At least in FF 18.0.2
No joy with IE 8, though.

February 17, 2013, 09:47 PM
O.K. whatever.

Ain't no big deal to me.

I just noticed the IE thing changed back to the vB thing all by itself tonight while I was out eating supper!

It's Alive!!

FF is good,IE can bite a box of brillo pads.

February 18, 2013, 09:24 PM
I agree, but I still haven't seen this favicon thing.

To really answer your question, it should be showing up and I don't know why it isn't. Clearing your cache may help.

Or it may not.

February 19, 2013, 05:58 AM
I see it but it looks a bit plain imho

March 6, 2013, 09:54 PM
The new one is WAAAAAAY better than the whitish one that was unrecognizable.

Nicely done.

March 7, 2013, 04:47 PM
Nice indeed.

Well, thanks go to (in order): Raindog, for getting us thinking along these lines and putting together a prototype.
Justin, for creating the newest one.I just upload the things. :)

March 8, 2013, 06:42 PM
Somehow we're back to the crappy -con ?

Personally I think the one with THR tileted and going to the horizon is WAY better the the one that just appears as a white square to me...with THR barely visible.

I think you're getting a cached version from somewhere. The new icon is still installed.

Derek Zeanah
March 8, 2013, 07:43 PM
Yeah. We're on the newest one with the slant. But browsers apparently have issues remembering which one is current.

Don't feel bad. In Chrome I'm seeing the old blue vB icon for my bookmark.

March 8, 2013, 08:16 PM
I kinda like the slanty one!

March 8, 2013, 08:25 PM
the slanty one appears to have a little bit trimmed off the left and right sides.

might be that the favicon is a little larger than the size allowed by my browser (firefox).

is this the older version? >>

March 9, 2013, 08:55 AM
In Firefox I have three different ones (VB, 1st tiny favicon, and 2nd slanted favicon), but if I use a bookmark it sometimes updates to the newer slanted one.

March 9, 2013, 01:12 PM
I finally got the new one to stick in IE, Firefox, and Goggle Chrome.

I had to delete the address out of the Favorites bar and install new ones again.

After that, all is well.

Thanks for the tip, RC.

Its amazing what gets Cached !

Thanks to Raindog, Justin, and Derek. Don't know why I need it, but now I feel as though I could not live without it.:D
