How well do Kahr's shoot?

Just got back from the range. I am in the market for a new ccw gun. I have a Kimber lightweight compact, but it isn't 100% reliable and a tad too big. The local shop has a matt blue Kahr K9. Are Kahr's good shooters? I might try action pistol. I notice that the magazine prices are $30, which is a negative. I also imagine the 9mm would be easier to control.
Thanks,
tjg

Very well IMHO.
I have shot both the MK9 and the P9 and both shot very accruately from my paw and functioned very well.

I just shot my K9 on Friday, and was impressed with it once again. That trigger that feels long and spongy when I dry fire it just seems to make for a smooth pull and release when I shoot the real thing. I got mine used (undetermined # of rounds overall, but in excellent condition) and have put maybe 6 or 700 through it myself with one FTE (the case just jammed the slide open, though the next round fed just fine). Anyway, I consider it highly reliable (reliable enough to carry with confidence); it's remarkably accurate for its size; and it feels great in my hand. Feedback I've read from other owners reinfoces this impression.
Oh, and you can get Proload 8 rd. Mags with a finger extension for less than 20$, I think. I've got one and have never had a problem with it, though I use it only for the range and games. Stock mags for carry.

My MK9 Elite is right on!!
The trigger is almost as good as my Ruger P95.
However, the reset may be to slow for action pistol!! It was designed as a pure self defense hide out gun!!

The Kahrs are EXCELLENT shooters. I would never buy another one again (for other reasons) but they do shoot GREAT -- both accurate & reliable!

My MK40 amazes me at the range.
Its so tiny but is more accurate then I am.
I will someday get a K40 because I expect it will be even better then my little MK.

Very little felt recoil in my K9. The trigger will take some work to get used to, as it has a much longer stroke than a 1911. This results in slower followup shots for me. Nice and thin, easy to conceal. Mine has been very reliable.

My Kahr K9 is an extremely sweet shooter. My only complaint is the way it dings my brass during ejection. (I'm a handloader and the chamber on the Kahr is too tight to use with my hand loads. It kills me not to be able to reuse the brass I shoot from it.)
Other than that, it is small but has an excellent grip and a sweet, smooth trigger. It's very controllable with +P ammo, amazingly accurate for such a small pistol, and completely reliable with commercial ammo.
I've heard of a few problems with their polymer models, but I don't think you can go wrong with the K9.

pinetree64:
My Kahr is very accurate and very reliable, with a little over 2000 rounds thought the gun it is up to 2 total failures, and both were ammo related. The rounds just would not fire, but they would not fire in my BHP either (blazzer 115 gr ammo).
I have shot my concealed carry course with the gun, Jerry Miculek defensive handgun course and his night combat course with my Kahr and the gun did very well.
I have grown to really like this gun. It is very comfortable to shoot, although I did get a blister in the crease of my hand when I shot about 700 rounds in 2 days during the defensive handgun course. My Kahr is my current carry gun. I really like the low bore axis and the guns feel.

I have had my Kahr E9 for a little over a year. I have put 1000 (plus) rounds through it without a problem. It is more accurate than I am. The DOA trigger was very nice right out of the box.
The pull of the trigger goes back farther than I am used to. When I get the Kahr out I have to re-familiarize with the trigger.
My wife really likes it. She considers it her gun. The grip is well suited for her smaller hand, but surprisingly feels good in my medium-large hand.
I also like the DOA configuration. No safeties to confuse if quick use is necessary.

Ditto what everyone else said..... the Kahr 9mm are pure pleasure to shoot. I carry the K9elite98 daily. It has a teeny bit less travel in the trigger than the older E9 I had in the past. It shoots very accurately, most likely due to the smoothness and surprise at let off in the trigger. It will cut ragged one-holers all day long. The only other 9mm I own now that can outshoot it in my hands are the P226 and a CZ75.

I am not a great shot, but I look pretty decent with my MK9 Elite. Like others have said, it's amazingly accurate for such a small package. You'd never think it just looking at it. Very manageable recoil. I've only shot 200 rounds through it (barely broken in), with one stovepipe.
The trigger's long but smooth. Great gun. You could do a lot worse.

Once acclimated to the trigger pull...even the most experienced shooters pull left a little at first with the Kahrs...my K40 would do this for me if I could.

IMHO the Kahr K9 is the single best gun on the market today. Don't flame me, everyones got to have a favorite.:D
My only question is, when will the PM9 come down in price? They are running about $600 OTD in my area. Are they going to come down drastically from this price or is demand keeping them inflated?

Firestar, try a dealer that doesn't gouge. They are way less $$ in my neighborhood. Availability seems to be the only problem.

I have a K9 with the trijicon night sights, it is less acurate tham my brother-in-laws k9 with regular sights. This is because on the back sight of the saddle (or whatever you call the thing you look through on the back sight) is wider than the one on the standard sights. Both guns are really accurate, but if I had to do it again, I would not get then night sights.

I have to echo what everyone else has said. My K9 has been completely reliable and more than accurate enough for its intended purpose. In a quality holster like the Alessi WSDT it is extremely comfortable to carry, and very concealable, yet it's large enough to get a good three finger grip, unlike some other tiny carry guns.

I also like the DOA configuration.
Karl, I'm not so sure I'd want a pistol set-up in that manner.:o :D
Seriously though, Kahr's DAO trigger is surely among the best. In 9mm, the Ks, Es, and P I had over time have all been sub-2" shooters at 25yds. with preferred ammo. The .40 would hold under 3", and that's about all one could ask for.
I recommend Kahr's pistols to anyone who wants something in that class.

I was surprised at how nice the trigger was. I had only shot 1 mag worth through one, but it was better than average.

12volt - Have you considered having the factory rear sight put back on, and just leaving the Trijicon front? That's how I had all my tritium-equipped Kahrs set up, and I REALLY like it that way.
As for my accuracy experiences with the Kahrs, they behave as well as any of my full sized pistols... it's ridiculous how accurate my K40 is!

I would like to have a setup like that, however I bought mine used like this at a gunshow. I guess I could get a factory rear sight from Kahr. Thanks for the tip!

I am another Kahr fan, have a K9 that is my preferred carry gun. It is nice and thin so it's easy to conceal, accurate and reliable. I have read that many people have had some problems with the polymer Kahrs.

Since no one has mentioned a P40, I would like to add that everytime I go to the range, I am amazed at how much better I get. (Maybe the gun is better than me ;) )
The P40 seems to get a bad wrap but after one visit to the factory, mine has not hiccupped once in 700 rounds.
Any other P40 owners out there?
Stay safe, JAG

My Kahr K9 ELite98 is one of the finest and smoothest guns I have ever shot. There is quite a difference between the regular trigger and the Elite triggers. I have never LIVE fired the regular trigger, but I sure do love the Elite.
It is more accurate than I am and a joy to shoot. For CCW reasons...it is tough to beat.
If I was a beat cop or body guard - there are better choices, but for 7+1 9mm...just try to beat it!
