Just got back from my deployment to the STAN and am leaving the dept. of the army and just landed a job in Parkersburg, WV.

Now i need information on any ranges in the area (on both the WV and OH sides)...

once i find a house I will hopefully have enough land to put up at least a pistol and shotgun range and hopefully enough for at least a 100meter rifle range...

any information would be appreciated.

also any WV specific hunting, fishing and shooting sites would be great!

Gun ranges are pretty scarce around here..... we have a couple state ran ranges on state parks but they usually only go out to 100 yards.

that is the link to the state ranges.

For what I have looked up this will probably be the largest range that is close to you. It shows 96 miles from where you will be at.

Here is the new range where a decent amount of matches are held but it will be a hike for ya.

Also this is the only hunting forum I have found that keeps somewhat up to date on post.

Whitehorse is a pretty good range with the ability to shoot out to 1000 yards. There are some pretty fierce high power competitors who shoot there. They only shoot 1000y at certain times though because you have to shoot across the other ranges to do so. You can shoot 50-600 yards anytime. If you ever want to head out that way shoot me a message and we'll put some lead down range.

I've never been to any of the ranges near Parkersburg but according to the WV DNR website their is a 100 yard range just 12 miles east of it.

Edit: Sorry I just noticed the link was already posted

I haven't been to Whitehorse much this year but I did like to take the rifles out and shoot steel at the KD range (200-600m) and I did most of my practice at the pistol range. I have a few videos on Youtuge shooting at the range. The valley it is in creates some pretty need acoustics. People have accused me of editing the sound but I assure you it just sounds like that. Black powder guns especially sound like cannons on that range.

I've got a bunch of friends from all the way up here in PA who are now routinely making their way down to Peacemaker (http://peacemakernational.com/) for their IDPA, long-range rifle and other practical matches. Their IDPA program is still coming along but they're working hard on it and it's getting better each month.

They've certainly put a lot of effort and money into the place and it is a terrific facility.
