But the Chicago laws are not enough!! "Hurryin' Hoosier", Chicago has no problem placing the blame for their high number of murders on Indiana and the rest of their own state for not being on board with their way of thinking on gun-control.

Maybe they need some more gun control laws to make it safer.
Rembrandt February 3, 2013, 07:44 PM Just to be fair to Big Al......don't you think you should put up photos of previous Mayors and Governors of Illinois?
Alaska444 February 3, 2013, 07:48 PM Sorry, doesn't Blago deserve his privacy?
LeonCarr February 3, 2013, 08:00 PM Al Capone was Saint Alphonse compared to some that hold public office.

ball3006 February 3, 2013, 08:14 PM Also caught Jesse Jackson on one of the talking head shows this morning. The discussion was on crime in Chacago. Jackson is a few bricks short of a load. He made no sense with his comments......chris3
ToraBoraBlues February 3, 2013, 08:21 PM Well this is clearly the fault of reactionary elements in states like Georgia, Tennessee, the Carolinas, and Texas clinging to guns and religion. If these bitter anti-progress elements would follow our dear leader, the clouds would part, global warming would cease, the world would sing in harmony as mankind took a step forward into a more perfect order. </sarcasm>
Deltaboy February 3, 2013, 08:25 PM Sad to see free men live under such oppression but remember Ben Franklin the people of Chicago gave the city that power under the guise of peace and safety and got neither.
OpelBlitz February 3, 2013, 09:06 PM Sweet Home...:barf:
colorado_handgunner February 6, 2013, 09:53 AM Now they are reducing 911 response to "non-violent crimes" as reported by the WSJ today.
Instead of sending an officer, they will fill out a police report over the phone. :banghead:
OpelBlitz February 6, 2013, 10:13 AM Yep! That's how Rahm and SuperNintendo McCarthy rolls. Also, Rahm is mandating 200 cops who normally had desk duties to hit the streets. That really pissed off a lot of people.
If you guys really want some good insight on what happens in our CPD, subscribe at Second City Cop. Although I'm not in Chicago proper, my entire family are CPD lifers and I like to keep tabs.
radiotom February 6, 2013, 10:16 AM Anybody have any numbers on the amount of catch and release going on in Chicago?
OpelBlitz February 6, 2013, 10:18 AM The actual numbers? Hah, good luck with that. The CompStats that go on here never reveal the true numbers.

Doesn't this trend pre-date Rham and McCarthy by quite a few years? I remember the same situation in Chicago in the late 80s.
I'll definitely check the SCPD site.

It has, but not to the degree that it is now. It wasn't until Daley in '89, or Shortshanks as he's referred to around here, when things really got messed up.
gossamer February 6, 2013, 10:31 AM That makes sense. I think I was first there in '90 and heard it had gotten bad then. I've been back a dozen or so times since and I love the city, even stayed in a hotel on the South Side. Of course, we brought every splinter and stitch of our belongings into the hotel room that night.
I wish nothing but the best for everyone in that city. The people there have that upper-midwest kindness that makes traveling through easier. Too bad crime can ruin all that.
OpelBlitz February 6, 2013, 10:37 AM I wouldn't say everyone has that mentality; in fact, Chicago's been voted as one of the rudest cities in the country. But then again, it's a diverse area and depends on where you are. I'm way out west, and it's a somewhat different culture out here. Heck, all of my reps are Republicans.

Yes, just like liquor bans (Prohibition) and drug bans (the War on Drugs) worked so well at eliminating consumption.
OptimusPrime February 6, 2013, 06:47 PM We all know how silly the ban is in Chicago, but what do the politicians there say? They MUST be asked somewhere "why is there so much crime with a total gun ban?" I've heard the answers about Indiana and its lax laws but is that it? Have they any other responses?
OpelBlitz February 6, 2013, 06:58 PM No, not true - because the media is very pro-Democrat here. And then, the universally-approved Rahm Emanuel answer is "It's for the children!"

JellyJar February 6, 2013, 08:06 PM I just checked the numbers and in 1930 the population of Chicago was 3,376,438 according to the US Census Bureau but only 2,695,598 according to the FBI's Uniform Crime Index.
That works out to a rate of homicide in 1929 of .7 per 100,000 people for the month of January or 8.4 per 100,000 for the year if the rate stayed the same for the rest of the year.
This year that works out to a rate of 1.6 per 100,000 people or a yearly rate of 19.2 if the rates stays the same for the rest of this year.
Gun control sure does work!!!:cuss:
OpelBlitz February 6, 2013, 08:12 PM There are other factors to take into account, such as cultural changes in urban life and such, but yes, your point's very well taken. :o
Deer_Freak February 6, 2013, 08:30 PM ABC news was interviewing a Chicago resident who lived in a high crime area. They asked him what needed to be done. He replied the cops need to clean up the guns in the area. He went on to say that he could just look in the bushes and find a gun. Yet the police never arrest anyone with a gun. Apparently Chicago has a huge problem enforcing the laws they have on the books. Before officials in Chicago start pointing the finger at other areas officials should prove they are enforcing existing laws. If the police were making 1,000's of gun arrests in high crime areas they would have reason to complain.
OpelBlitz February 6, 2013, 09:02 PM CPD's severely understaffed and everyone knows it.
What that resident said kind of goes in line with what Uncle Joe Biden said when asked about enforcing fraud Form 4473's -- "We don't have the man power to check every one." Pfft.
