Here's a dumb Beginner question or two, OK?
Wouldn't steel shot make a good defensive lolad even small shot? Penetration should be greater than lead.
#2 Can you shoot Steel Shot through a Stoger Uplander 20 Ga?
Thanks guys.

Steel shot is less dense than lead so it will penetrate less than lead shot of the same size. Stick with lead for a defensive load.

Steel shot......sucks. Being a waterfowl hunter myself, I have really grown to hate steel. Stick with lead.

Thanks guys!
Will the barrels handle steel shot without harm? The way things are that might be the only shot shells that I can get for a while!

Should be fine to shoot steel through. Double check your owners manual though

Some guns will have issues with tight chokes and steel shot

It's usually recommended that if you use a full choke for lead, then use a modified choke for the same size steel shot. Unless the owners manual specifically states 'no steel shot' then most modern shotguns made since steel shot was made mandatory should be fine with steel shot.
