I just got a Neos Carbine Kit on Ebay for $214 + $10 shipping. The seller has 9 more. I also see that Midwest Gun Works has them, for a slightly higher price. Get them now, they wont last.

Get them now, they wont last.

Why?

I only ask because I have a Neos but not a .22 rifle and have been thinking about getting the carbine kit. I love my Neos and I need a rifle. The carbine kit seems cool but, for that kind of money, I can buy a slightly used 10/22 or any number of new .22 rifles.

Also when you convert a pistol to a carbine, does that mean you cannot convert back?

They wont last long because they get snapped up quick. Sure you can buy a 22 rifle for around the cost of the Carbine kit, but what fun is that?

You can convert a pistol to a rifle as long as the barrel is longer than 16" and the overall length is over 26". Since it was originally a pistol, you can convert it back and forth, as many times as you wish. The ATF ruling was clarified 2 years ago to address just this issue.

I can see the unique value of the carbine kit but honestly for me, the Mossberg 702 "plinkster" serves the role of a compact carbine chambered in .22lr very well for about half the price of the Neos carbine kit.

The Mossberg also doesn't have an external slide to worry about getting in the way of while firing. The OAL is still very short on the Mossberg as well.

The only real downside to the 702 is that it is a PITA to take down fully and reassemble due to a floating buffer and a spring assembly that likes to bend. Aside from those two minor issues, the 702 serves very well in the role that the carbine kit fills.

That's a really nifty looking carbine conversion for the Neos. Just checked on Midway's website and they're out of stock with more coming in next month.

Also when you convert a pistol to a carbine, does that mean you cannot convert back?

The BATFE ruled that you may convert the pistol to carbine and back again because it origonally started out as a pistol.

It's very nit-picky but to stay legal you must never have the pistol barrels on the action when it has the carbine stock attached. Doing so would create a Short Barreled Rifle and that is illegal.

The same goes for having the carbine barrel mounted on the action when it is attached to the pistol.

As long as you get the steps correct you are perfectly legal.
