I'm looking into these Para-Ordinance high-capacity 1911's, and I'm wondering how they stack up to the design specs of a true 1911 in terms of size. Obviously the grip is larger to accommodate the larger magazine, but the grip doesn't enter the holster. Is the section of the gun from the chamber and forward still built to 1911 specs? I'm asking because I need to know if a molded leather or kydex holster designed for a government 1911 will work with these Para P14s

I depends. the grip is larger as you say, and some kydex holsters have a lip that interferes with the grip behind the trigger and prevents full insertion of the pistol. One of mine does. I also had to modify a Galco leather holster a bit so it would work.

I personally would either make sure I could try before you buy or get a good return policy.

FYI here's a vid I made to whet your appetite... ;)

Some do. (Like the Blackhawk Serpa.) Some won't if it has a rail, another thing to check.

I have a Para 14 and two custom guns built on Para frames..I have shot and carried them for over 20 years...I carry them in the same leather that I do my regular 1911A1's....a Milt Sparks summer special IWB and a OWB high ride pan cake with no thumb break.....my two custom guns use Colt slides and the Para frame.....Other than the larger grip frame they for all practical purposes are the same dimensionally as my single stack 1911A1's.
