Constructive possession?

I assume that if one already owns a functional 870 receiver, then the purchase of this would be considered Constructive possession until such time as the paperwork cleared and the tax stamp arrived?

How would you go about legally purchasing this, when the auction ends long before you could get the stamp?

It would be a bad idea to own that at the same time as you're in possession of a shotgun receiver that it could be attached to, if you have no arrangement of parts that could be assembled in a lawful way.

If you DON'T happen to be in possession of that receiver (like if it is locked in a friend's gun safe, out of your hands until your paperwork clears) that would be ok.

If you happen to have some other gun that this could go on where it WOULD be lawful, then you could possess both without worry.

(An example there would be some of the PGO configurations which are over 26" with only a 14" barrel ... but that's pretty uncommon.)
