Title says it all. For competition/range use and open carry only. The pistol is a GI style with some minor modernizations, so I want something classic, but not a replica of a GI rig or anything like that (way too bulky and in the wrong place).

I have to admit that El Paso Saddlery makes a classic holster from the turn of the century, I would also recommend the Milt Sparks 55BN as a classic modern defensive catty holster

I have always been fond of my Bianchi Model 4L Askins Avenger. Sort of a classic design much like the Milt Sparks Model 55BN.

Yes, the Avenger is a copy of the 55BN

+1 on the Milt SParks 55BN - the holster is a design by Bruce Nelson who gave Milt permission to make em.

I've got the Milt Sparks #Axiom with a MS ! 1/2" Belt and MS IWB single
mag carrier and/or an OWB MS Double Mag carrier.

I have a Texas Strong Side from Kirkpatrick Leather. I find it does the job just fine.

Best holster = Rusty Sherrick (may have had health problems and stopped making leather goods). He makes holsters for real "operators" ie CIA and for Kings and Princes. The Gouchenour High Ride is my favorite. Just my opinion, however I have drawers full of different holsters and I prefer it to any. I seldom use it though, as it for a Les Baer Monolith Heavy. I carry a Glock most of the time so it's seldom worn.

Best inexpensive holster I have is a Mernickle. Great holster at a nominal price.
However, it too is a 1911 holster and seldom used as I carry a Glock.

Careful if your intent is competition uses. Most competitions will not allow a holster that does not cover the trigger, and those old style Tom Threepersons do not.

(Not saying they aren't perfectly safe with a C&L gun or single-action revolver. Just that you won't be allowed to play.)

An old Texas Lawman friend of mine makes some pretty spiffy classic rig for 1911's
