In ten days, The Counter-terrorism Education Learning Lab will be presenting a debate on gun crime hosted by Governor Hickenlooper, and attended by a number of other high-profile people interested in the current debate over guns.

Here's the information:

Invite you to a Discussion adressing: GUN VIOLENCE

Advocates across the spectrum will discuss banning assault weapons, requiring universal background checks, mental health issues and how President Obama's firearm policies will impact Colorado.

Moderated by Gov. Hickenlooper
Governor John Hickenlooper said "the time is right" for state lawmakers to consider gun control measures. He is moderating this provocative discussion on Gun Violence in Colorado with Colorado’s thought leaders and policy makers.

Featuring
U.S. Congressman Doug Lamborn (R-CO 5) - Rep. Lamborn has been a strong advocate for pro-gun rights policies and has led congressional efforts to oppose gun control regulations. The National Journal selected Mr. Lamborn as the "Most Conservative Member of Congress."
John Morse, President of the Colorado State Senate (D-Colorado Springs) - Senate President Morse is a strident gun control proponent. He believes in enacting universal criminal background checks on any gun purchase, an all out ban on assault weapons, and limiting high capacity assault magazines. Morse provides a unique perspective as the former Chief of Colorado Spring Police Department and a former paramedic.

Ken Buck has spent his career as a prosecutor advocating for longer sentences for dangerous criminals and promoting self-protection by law abiding citizens. He has taken a strong position on pro-gun policies. Mr. Buck served as a federal prosecutor for over 12 years and also taught at the University of Denver's Sturm School of Law.
Colorado State Representative Rhonda Fields (D-Aurora) - State Representative Fields has long been dedicated to the reform of gun laws. Fields is to set forth legislation in 2013 requiring mandatory background checks for all firearm purchases. Representative Fields is the chair of the House Local Government Committee and was named one of Denver Post's "Top 20 Most Influential Women" of 2012.
David B. Kopel, Research Director of the Independence Institute - David Kopel is a nationally recognized legal scholar supporting firearms policies. Before joining the Independence Institute, he served as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Colorado.
Tom Deland, President of the Colorado Association of Chiefs of Police (CACP) - As a leader within Colorado law enforcement, Chief Tom Deland is an advocate for safe communities. Chief Deland will explain CACP's position with respect to reducing the level of gun violence in our state. He will also provide insights into CACP's stance on universal background checks, the ban on military style assault weapons, high capacity magazines, and other measures. Chief Deland has served as the Chief of Police for the City and County of Broomfield since 1991.

It would be really great if we could get a strong showing of pro-rights folks attending this event. I've already purchased my ticket, and at $13/ticket, it's a pretty cheap way to spend an evening in Denver.
