Seems high to me.

Essex frames used to be a little over $100 bucks.

I'm with RCmodel. For the same money you could pick up an Ace unit and a brand new Rock Island 45 and have two guns for the same money.

It has been 4 years or so but I picked up a nice Ace conversion for $250 with two mags. Would pass on an Essex framed one for $1000.

I have an Essex frame with a TacSol .22 conversion on it. I bought the frame many years ago and assembled it using mainly Colt parts for the internals. Not an easy build and required a lot of careful work with a set of Swiss files to get everything to fit properly. So I wouldn't necessarily recommend an Essex frame, and the price of that one with the Colt conversion is definitely on the way-too-high side for me.

I picked up my Essex frame brand new for around $55 back in the day. While it is functional I wouldn't go that route again with a M1911 build.

+1

I have built several guns on Essex frames over the years.

Some went together easy.

Others fought every step of the way, kicking & screaming.

They seem to have had a hole location problem at times.

The last three I bought a few years ago were very good.

I've been watching a few on gunbroker etc the kit seems to be at $600 for ones in good shape, this gun is perfect but I'm thinking that $400 for a complete Essex frame my be high, I may offer $800 and see what happens.

do they SELL for $600? People can list stuff for whatever outrageous price they want.

I'm going to pass in this one, maybe buy just a kit to fit my gun.

I just bought one of the conversion kits for $225 like two weeks ago. Pass on a grand.

My frame was definitely one of the more challenging ones as it suffered from holes that didn't line-up properly. Not a single hole location on that frame was true; each one required very careful filing and fitting just so I could get the necessary part or pin to fit in there. Turned out okay and everything works fine but I sure could have done without all the extra labor involved.

I gave up and but one of these instead.
