Had several different loads made up. Some with new brass, some with used. Loaded 7.5gr and 8.0gr. Had some with no resize(new brass), and with regular sizing. All had heavier crimp than I was using before. I did shoot these through my flattop rather than the large frame blackhawk I used initially. I know I should have used same gun, but though I would try my other one. Run 48 rds thru it and all were very clean, Just a few granules was all there were. I am very impressed with the universal powder now. Must be either the other gun or was the crimp. Will load some more up and test with the other blackhawk and see what happens. Hoping it was just the crimp. Also loaded some 38sp with 4.8 gr and they shot clean as well. trikerider

I had a fair amount of unburned Universal in my 9mm and 45. There would always be a few tan colored flakes in the action.

Universal needs a little pressure to burn completely. The extra crimp increases pressure a little and lessens unburnt grains.

I had the same problem in really light 38 SPL loads using Blue Dot in the past with my Ruger Blackhawks. I put up with it for a long time due to the excellent accuracy of the loads however.;)
