New Discussion Room?

So as a believer I have noticed a lot of users here use scripture in their signatures. I have debated adding my favorite to mine. We have around 31 discussion rooms covering every weapon related subject under the sun. The Bible discusses weapons, possession and their use from beginning to end. There are a lot of references and since the sword was the gun of their day, I have always enjoyed discussion scripture and its interpretation as to how God views weapons, self defense, protecting ones family etc. This would be off topic in most every room we have in the house. Who would be interested in such discussion? Sure it would be lively at times and if the moderators are over worked already, I have moderated discussion groups in the past and would be willing to help.

Yep, and it's going to stay that way.

As the rules say, "We have learned from bitter experience that discussions of politics, abortion, religion, and sexual orientation often degenerate into less-than-polite arguments or claims that "my God is better than your God". For this reason, we do not discuss such subjects on THR, and any threads dealing primarily with these subjects will be closed or deleted immediately."

Nope. Not going to happen.

We tried to allow religious discussions for years, but it's impossible to prevent people from starting "my God is better than your god" arguments, and then folks choose to martyr themselves (or their online personas) over issues of faith, and it's a huge distraction from our mission, and, well, no. It doesn't work here, and it's divisive, and there are lots of places where that's on topic.

But not here.

And that right there is exactly why I've made THR my home for gun forums. It really is a unique, and refreshing place, and I thank Derek and all the Mods for keeping it that way.

I think quite a few members (including myself) would be offended and leave if that happened.

Aren't there religion forums for discussing religion?

I understand completely as moderator of other boards. Some subjects certain people cannot control their feelings enough for rational discussion. I was just thinking could limit it to only scripture that relates to weapons and defense of ones self and family. I can see where the line could get blurred. Y'all sure were quick to stomp on that idea. Thanx!

As to being offended and leaving, if it were a complete separate room where you only entered and read purposely, leaving the entire site might be a bit narrow minded. Not trying to stir the pot but there are quite a few threads I chose not to follow in here for the reason that I find the topic of no use to me and often crossing the line. I know the mods are quick to stop many but still some that continue suprise me. It would be like refusing to drive down Main Street, Anywhere USA just because you had to pass a church. I totally understand not allowing such a room but not someone taking offense and leaving the entire site over it. Be like quitting because you are not a reloader and find the reloading section of no use. Or not believing in private ownership of Class 2 & 3 weapons and leaving over the NFA section. Or quitting the internet completely over religious sites. We all have the right to not click on something we don't like. Like I said, I understand this is a collective and the decision against has already been made. But I am not taking my ball and going home because of it. We are all supposed to realize and respect each others beliefs even if we don't agree. So lock this up, fine with me. Understand the trepidation and decision not to but not the idea of round canning entire site if such a room were to exist.

As in another forum that was devoted to that discussion? Absolutely! Cool!

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof, or abridging the freedom of speech, or the press; or the right of the people to peaceably assemble and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

That one is so simple. Right to believe or not and the government not to force either. This Board is for the free discussion of 2nd amendment rights, it is a type of press, one room is dedicated to assembly and petition. Thus only one piece that seems to irk folk which is the part that gives them the freedom to disagree with and not be forced to participate.

My idea was a room that was for discussion of on topic religious ideas pertaining to weapons and defense. The scriptures are full of ideas about the right and duty to protect ones home and family. From Mosaic law to Christ himself encouraging at least a portion of his disciples to carry swords. That is what I saw as the purpose. Leave anything else out of it as off topic for the ideals of this site. I would even welcome input from people of other faiths to add input from their books of faith. Whether Jews, Muslims, Hinduism, etc. One of the major sponsors of this site is a Jewish Firearms organization. How do we accept sponsorship from them with a link to their organization with their beliefs at the bottom of each page? We can have a Jewish sponsor (which I have zero problem with) but we can't even broach the subject of firearms ownership from a religious point of view. Very odd. If the sponsor on each page were Christian or Muslim as opposed to Jewish I wonder how some folks would feel? Just my damaged brain unable to connect the dots so many seem to see clearly. I don't know how a room which people could choose to enter or not of free will would be so offensive. I choose not to push the links to porn sites that spam my email but I don't shut down my email because of them either. I am an adult and able to choose the content I do or do not choose to view. O.K. the collective has made a choice and I can live with it. But for some to be so scared or offended by even the idea of the subject I find interesting as the most polite way I can word my thoughts.

I think the fact that even mentioning this brings about long posts in the tech support forum and an immediate spirit of division indicates the likelihood of this happening. Sorry, Huey, but for most people religion is an intensely personal topic. We have to calm people down when discussing 9mm and .45, so I can't even begin to imagine how heated that would get when discussing religion and interpretations thereof.

Closing this because the answer has been clearly stated, and it is "no".
