55 gr Z-max in stock at Midway

Price doesn't really seam to be inflated at all.

I've been shooting Win bulk 55 gr FMJ-BT bullets for plinking and 69 gr SMK as my "premium" bullet. But with availability being what it is, I may try these out.

Same price as I paid for mine recently at a lgs. Wasn't really looking for them but its all they had in stock.

I bought 1500 a few months ago instead of the 55 Gr V Max because they were 30% or so cheaper. They shoot just fine. I worked up a load with H322.

Most Powder in local stores is priced at an astounding $39 a pound. Primers have 'exploded' in price to $39.95 per 1000. People have cut back shooting dramatically at the range with ammo being so dear and so difficult to replace.

Hey Walkalong... I've been sitting on a couple pounds of H322 since the last big scare, when I couldn't get H335.

Mind sharing what you came up with?

Any issues metering H322?

H-322 meters very well.

For brass trimmed to 1.750 and weighing 98 Grs or less, 24.7 Grs of my old lot of H-322 gave me an Avg 3041 FPS from a 16" Middy upper on a 104 degree 34% RH day, loaded to 2.230 to 2.235 AOL, without blowing any primers. (Not even close) That was my max and the hottest I tested it at. Not the most powder I tried, but my max. It is over the Hodgdon online data for .223. Consider it more like 5.56 pressures.

Follow your load books data. Start low and work up. I make no guarantee that this load is safe.

I felt silly buying them but its all I've found. Its actually all I've bought. I just started loading for .223 a couple or 3 weeks ago.

The "Z-Max" are the same as V-Max with a different color tip.

V-Max are great varmint rounds and accurate. I bought 500 40g Z-Max last month because they were cheap and I shot a nice 30rd group at 100 yards using 24g's of 844t and Wolf SRM primers out of my S&W AR.

Why do some people get their undies in a wad over the color of the plastic tip on a bullet?I bought 2,000 40gr ZMax .223s for my .22-250s and 2000 .243 58 grainers Both bullets are like the laser beam of death for varmints. They were also cheaper than VMax bullets. If they shoot,who cares what color the tip is? I'd buy them if they were hot pink or putrid purple or sinus infection green.:neener:

Its not the color. I know they are good bullets. Im just not into the zombie craze. That's why I felt silly buying them.

I also bought them for price. That savings helped the silly feeling go away almost instantly. :)

If I'm not mistaken, the Z-max has a canalure and the V-max does not.

The link I posted stated that the Z-max is actually identical to the bullet used in TAP ammo, but for the tip color.

I dont remember where I got them but I have a bunch of 55 gr v-max w/c.

The 55gr vmax is offered with a cannelure and is supposedly what is loaded in the TAP offering.

The 55g V-max and 40g Z-max i have both do not have a cannelure. I have not seen them with one but, I am not saying they don't.
