03A3 Favorite loads?

Hello all,

Thanks to all of your generous advice with my M1 Garand loads. So far, I have had a great deal of success with my loads and I'm really enjoying the precision involved the pursuit of perfection.

My question is about my 03A3 (Remington 1943's- technically has the A4 receiver- not that it makes a ton of difference). Anyone have a go-to load that they would like to share? The old bolt action is way more forgiving than the M1 and I've got some Accurate 2495 that I'd like to use up. This will basically be my practice ammo. I've learned the rifle with the sporterized version, but I'm thinking about using my intact one to compete (in the way future).

Done the usual checking with manuals- got some ideas, but every contribution from this forum has been invaluable. It's like having a bunch of online mentors.

Thanks!

Same as my Garand load, 47.0 grains of IMR-4895 and a 150 grain FMJ.

The loads which work in your Garand will also function well in your 03A3. Since the 03A3 is a bolt action rifle you can also experiment with reduced velocity loads. I use 19.5 gr. SR-4759 with a 150 gr. jacketed bullet which is really soft on the shoulder.

Yeah, the Garand round shoots beautifully, but just too darn quickly. I found a 1lb of IMR 4831 hiding out and my manuals say, sure, shoot it with the 165 Spitz. Not as OCD with my bolt actions, but my 03 is my favorite. I try not to let the M1 know that. And Accurate Arms 2495- pretty close to 4895? I have 2lbs more of the 2495, so it goes first. My trusty Speer doesn't like it at all for anything but RN's, SP's, and TMJ HP's. Blah. My stock is almost exclusively BTHP.
