Local pawn shop has an Iver Johnson single action 44-40 for sale. has some bluing wear but the action is tight. They are asking $350 but might go less... Does anyone have one of these and if so what can you tell me about them? Good guns? junk?

Iver Johnson was a low end manufacturer until about 1970 or so. The made low price, read cheap, hand guns. I remember in 1962, when I was stationed at Ft. Devens, MA., I went over to Fitchburg to see their factory. Nice people but low budget firearms,

If you bought this 44wcf, the likely hood of your ever finding parts range from slim to none. And truth be told, I really would not even fire it.

If you want a Single Action, buy an Ubert iimport from Cimarron or Taylors INC. Pretty good pistolas for the money.

I'LL BET THE NORTH 182,000 ACRES that Iver Johnson IS a UBERTI SA 44-40 sixgun for which parts are readily available.
I would not pay a cent over $300.00 and you know for a fact a pawn shop has a lot less that that in the pistol.

It is an Uberti Cattleman imported and sold by IJ before they went out of business.

The Ubertis are good guns. IJ imported a lot of stuff from Europe to stamp their own name on before they finally went under. If you can get the .44-40 under $300, it would be a good deal, suggested retail price on a new one is circa $600.

ok thanks! I was wondering if they built it or not. Kinda strange in that it doesn't have grip screws, looks like they are held in by the frame. As for the pawn shop having alot less in it, yea I know. heck I was there when the guy sold it to them. LOL! If I get it I'm gonna offer less than $300 or find something tradeable that is less than that because for a little more I can get a new Uberti.

That's just a one piece grip. Pretty common on SAA type guns.
