About a month ago, I picked up a bag of montana gold 185gr jhp 45 bullets. I loaded them up in a few different flavors, no real taper crimp, just took the flare out. I only adjusted the seating depth on the die. I have never had any issues with setback using my cast boolits(.452) and range finds hardball(.451) that ive pulled and reloaded. Somehow, doing the push test had skiped my mind. I had shot 8 of these at the range a few weeks back, luckily nothing bad happened because....

A few days ago, I was tinkering around and wanted to see how many reracks it would take for a round to set back .01", so i cycled three through my 1911. each time locking back the slide, inserting the mag and letting the round slam home. they all started at 1.230". after first chambering, they were 1.190. second chambering they were at 1.163, third 1.149, 4th 1.136, 5th 1.119. these were averages. some had almost no setback, but most were pretty bad. I had nothing to load up today so i got around to pulling these and investigating the cause. turns out, most of the bullets measure .449 and .4495, few measured .450". No wonder I wasnt getting much accuracy out of the 8 I shot.

Just a little cautionary tale about checking things out when switching bullets. I guess Im going to contact MGB, does anyone know if they work with you if you didnt buy the bullets directly from them?
