Is 2 1/2 cents each reasonable for shipped bullets? I just received 2500 185 & 230 grain 45 acp bullets and the shipping and insurance was right at $60. Glad to get the bullets, but just wondering what others were experiencing.

Well, thats about 75 pounds of bullets & packing materials.
Anything that weighs 75 pounds isn't cheap to ship.

So it doesn't sound to far out of line to me.
And insurance on 2,500 bullets at todays prices probably isn't either.

US Postal 'If it Fits, It Ships'. 75 pounds, have to split the load into a couple of boxes.
I know my Mailman doesn't like it when i get them :uhoh:

From Midway, I had to separate my orders due to induced limits.
each order of 1000 rounds cost me $17 shipment. ($34 for two separate shipments).
I think I would have been in the $20's if I could have had all 2000 included in one order.

This was a Nachez order. I also ordered earlier in the year 2000 230 grain from Midway and you're correct, it fitted and was shipped at about $18. I guess Nachez doesn't do the usps thing. Shame! But still glad to get the bullets in this day and times! Now l can shoot for another month or so:)

Their is a maximum weight limit of I believe 72 lbs for the USPS priority mail flat rate boxes. That being said I would not put 72 lbs in one box since it surely will be damaged in shipmet. I would ship half that amount in each box and insure that their was a rigid inner container.

For $60 shipping and insurance they would have kept them. That is too high to me.

This morning, USPS delivered 5000 9mm bullets I ordered from ZCast (http://www.zcastbulletz.com/order.html) on January 24 (took almost 4 weeks when the website stated 5-6 weeks). Shipping was $13 for each box of 2500 (total of $26).

Shipping for my last order was the same $13 for each USPS medium priority box of 9mm/40S&W/45ACP bullets from ZCast and Missouri Bullet Company charges the same for their shipping.

I think $60 shipping/insurance for 2500 45ACP bullets sounds like someone got a nice tip. ;):D

I tend not to buy bullets from big retailers because they have generic shipping. I much rather give my money to a fellow reloader. So I pay flat rate or regional pricing from USPS. Far less money then a big enough online retailer.

"snatchez" is a rip on shipping. a brick of 500 22lr cost me 16.00 bucks. they just moved to the bottom of my list..

:D I hear ya! I ordered a couple thousand 9mm FMJ from Precision delta. The all came in a USPS medium flat rate box. The route deliverer had a heck of a time with that box. Left it on the porch and told my wife not to try to lift it. PD got their money's worth out of that shipment. :D

I got 2K of 180gr bullets shipped to me via USPS in a "if it fits" box. I had to go pick them up at the post office as the mail lady couldn't carry them. The post office is .2 miles from my house so it was no biggie. I think it was $13 or so for shipping.

This afternoon I received a box from Mastercast with 2,000 110 grain .30 carbine bullets, one carton, cost $12.35 to ship in a medium flat rate box.

Flat rate boxes are the ONLY way to ship brass and bullets.

$60 Way too high. Just checked my invoices, for up to, 70 lbs, in the med flat rate box with insurance was, $15.35. That order, split into two boxes because of weight > $30.70
But, maybe you got a really good price on the bullets, hope so.

I buy from Grafs (http://www.grafs.com/) when possible - they charge a flat $6 or so handling fee and no additional shipping. We all know they make it up somewhere, but their prices are well within reason and their customer service has been stellar for me.

Berry's and Montana Gold don't charge for shipping if its a decent sized order.

I just added 2500 9mm bullets to my cart at Natchez and the shipping estimate was $58 and change. I'd say you got charged what you should have expected. Did you not use the shipping estimator when ordering or just buyer's remorse?

I can't say on shipping of bullets, but I pick up 65-70# of lead ingot on occaision, and it usually runs around $16 per medium FRB through USPS.

Just last week I shipped 16# of ingot in two small FRB's and the lady at the counter was saying these are too heavy, but the one in the next counter over told her right quick, flat rate domestic, 70# if it fits it ships.

Berry's rolls the shipping into the price, unless your a dealer (but you still pay it). Two thousand bullets up to 180 grains can ship in a flat rate box.

No, I was so glad to get bullets I did not ask (buyers remorse I guess). Does seem like Nachez would do like others to help their customers. I promise to be more alert in the future to the shipping charges.
I didn't realize I could buyer directly from Berry's. I'll try that next time.

Catpop,
Natchez and Midway are pretty on top of the current demand as far as getting things shipped. But they aren't a boutique and they don't use USPS AFAIK. Other vendors, who knows? I just told Sarco to take a hike after 7+ weeks on an order that was supposed to be in stock. Montana Gold had their wait at 20 days when I ordered, that went up to 25 days Now they are 30-40 days out and have shut down all ordering. Darn responsible of them in my opinion. 30 days later I'm still waiting (and will wait) for them to ship.

It sucks but you've got some bullets. At an extra 2.5 cents per bullet, how much are you still saving versus off the shelf? Around here, 9mm is up to 18 a box if you can find it. :what: With the bullets I ordered from Natchez thanks to your post, I will be reloading for about 16 cents a round. 13.5 cents or 16 cents a round versus 36 cents a round and being able to actually go shoot is a win in my book. My 357 sig is $30+ a box so 18 cents versus 60 cents is a no-brainer.

If it makes you feel any better, I'm glad you posted this. :D I was tickled when I went to their site and saw they had 9mm in stock. I was able to snag some XTP bullets off of Midway early this week but want some cheap plinkers. I was about to run down to a local guy that casts at 10 cents a round which is darn expensive for lead.

BTW, you can't order direct from Berrys at the moment. They are so backed up that they have shut down their order page for everything.

Not sure what you paid for the bullets, but that sounds pretty high. Precision delta 230 gn fmj rn $135.00 per 1000 includes shipping. But probably a 2 to 3 month wait. A bullet in the hand is worth two in the bush. Just be glad you got some.
