I took my new 590 for its first outing today and it consistently won't feed the last round. It looks like the interrupter isn't allowing the last shell out of the magazine tube. All the other rounds feed fine.

Any clues?

On any magazine fed weapon last round feed problems are almost always a weak magazine spring. Especially if the magazine has been stored at full capacity for some time. If this is a "new" gun then I would return it. The follower may be tilting or sticking on the last round. Look at the inside of the magazine tube. If it is not clean, dry and shiny it needs to be cleaned.

I agree that the magazine spring may well be the culprit ... IIRC Mossberg has had some problems with weak magazine springs in the past.

+1 on both of the above.

You "might" have a defective shell latch but that wouldnt normally be a "last round only" problem. Like I said, if it is a new gun (not just new to you) then return it. Most of the gun makers buy huge quantities of springs from who knows where and some of them are junk. On any new or used gun I buy I replace all of the springs with quality springs from Wolff or ISMI. Their springs are made to much higher specs than what most of the factories are buying.

I put wolf springs in my mossbergs mag tube and they are definately worth the money. I would expect that to,solve the problem.

Good suggestions above. Check the mag tube and follower for burrs, rough spots, leftover packing grease, etc. Those parts MUST be clean and dry. Mossberg has had a few issues with bad mag springs in the past. Give Mossberg a call/e-mail; and see what they say.

Check to see if the magazine tube is screwed into the receiver good and tight. If it is loose you can tighten the magazine tube with channel locks. Wrap several layers of masking tape and an old towel around the magazine tube before tightening it.

This is why you get an 870. :D. But nah, change the magazine spring out like the others have said.

At least the Mossberg can be repaired. The only way to repair an 870 is to take the shells out of it and load them in a Mossberg product.

If you complain to Mossberg enough, they'll send you a prepaid FedEx label to ship your defective gun back for service. Its a shame that you need to complain to get them to do this. They think that the poor customer who got a bad product should pay for shipping, but whatever.

So I sent it to them and I got it back about a month later. Same problem. So I call them to start another round of bitching. I ask "what got fixed??" and the idiot on the phone said "Nothing. The technician couldn't reproduce the problem". So she's sending me a prepaid FedEx label (I didn't have to bitch for it this time) and she's promising to have their "lead technician" look at it when it comes in.
