Powder in cannelure?

I (like many others it seems) am in the process or acquiring equipment and components to start reloading. I received my FA impact puller, and had to give it a try. I had some rounds loaded wtih 230g flat nosed lead bullets, and after three whacks, and the bullet came out. I examined the bullet, and it is evident that there is powder in the cannelure grove. Is this expected? How can the charge be consistent with this going on?

After thinking about this for a minute, I figured out the there is lube in the grove, and after the bullet and powder came out, some powder adhered to the sticky lube. Mods, feel free to delete this post, with my apologies.

When the bullet is pulled, it drops the powder to the bottom of the puller, as well as the bullet. With the bullet lube in the groove, the powder could be clinging to that part of the bullet. It shouldn't be there from loading, unless the person loading the case, left case lube inside the case before dropping the powder charge.

That lube is like a tar baby. You've got it figured right.

Cannelure? That looks more like a lube groove to me. I'd say that bullet has no cannelure.

Yes, I see your edit now. Sorry.

Brush off what you can and reload 'em. I don't worry about a few powder flakes stuck to the bullet when re-using them with the same powder.

I've never though about re-using them with a different powder since this normally all happens in one reloading session.
