22L Pressure Issue?

I ended up with some old Aguila 22L among some other odd 22 ammo. I fired one of each just to see if it goes bang. All of it did, this one maybe on the verge of a little heftier bang.

Never seen 22 ammo bulge a case like this, and never had any issues with the pistol I shot this in. 180388

It could be a weak case, or it could be the cartridge not being supported enough while chambered.

You say that you never had a problem with the firearm in question before, so I would lean towards a bad case in a batch. But I would still be kinda leery shooting that gun after seeing that.

Just my opinion though.

:what: Ummm... yeah. That's a new one. Then again, I've been spoiled with a wonderful .22LR that has never had any problems and has been around for the better part of 50 years, so maybe I need to get out more.

I'd tread carefully around the gun for a while, and maybe have it looked at, but I wouldn't overreact. :scrutiny:

I'm not going to overreact, but I'll definitely pull the cylinder out and see if one of chambers isn't suspect (Heritage). This pistol has been a good one and I doubt it's the cause, but I'll sure check if out before I shoot it next.

This was the only round of that ammo I fired and I wasn't planning on shooting any more of it, so I doubt I'll ever know if the ammo is suspect.

I shoot agulia ammo almost all the time. They make a hyper velocity round that might not be safe to shoot in a Heritage. I own a Heritage myself but they are pot metal pistols. I don't shoot anything but bulk ammo in my Heritage. I would never shoot hyper velocity ammo in any pot metal gun.

what was this 22 ammo shot in? it looks like it was shot in a semi-auto and it started to unlock a little too soon. I wouldn't expect to see that is a revolver.

IMO Weak case or factory overcharge.

I had three rounds of Winchester Super-X from the same box that blew out about half of the rim of each case. One round blew out in a Walther P22 and the other two blew out in a Ruger Single Six. I suspect the cases were defective.

Now that I think about it, I'm not sure I fired that round. It could have been in the box already.

This ammo is several years old, I'm guessing at least 30+. The box has a Montgomery Wards price tag on it (69 cents I think). If memory serves the local Monkey Wards closed pretty close to the time my sister was born in 1980 and the family member whom this belonged to lived here his entire life.
