Casting Forum?

I pm'd Derek to see if there was any interest in a "casting" subforum.
As you may well be aware, as of now when someone has a casting question they're almost always directed to a forum that's dedicated to casting.

Would you be interested in a casting subforum right here on The High Road?
Maybe this poll will help the powers that be decide.

Sure, I enjoy casting my own and I think there are probably quite a few on her who do as well.

I have the equipment and alloy, never have done any casting yet. A subforum would be useful.

Yes.

If everyone calls them boolits I won't go near it, though. There already is a forum on the www for that silliness. :p

I kinda like how it is now.. all reloading under one roof. If you want the real goods on all things casting and more go to castboolits.com. It's like THR but only does casting/reloading with about forty sub-forums within their site.

I think a forum simply for ammunition is needed as well, not reloads, but just general factory ammo(not that I'd shoot the stuff) questions thread. I think many people are hesitant to post ammo related questions because well, there is simply no place for those questions and the closest would be here in the reloading forum.

I think THR is good as is. Castboolists.com has more info on the subject than I thought existed until I started casting.

I think casting questions are appropriate for just the reloading forum, no?

I think a casting forum would be a great addition to the Highroad.

Why create a very poor imitation of the dedicated casting site at www.castboolits.gunloads.com ??????

There are OVER 26,000 casters already enrolled there, almost TWO MILLION posts....do you REALLY think anything we discuss here about casting will be better-addressed than it already is over there?

Just a couple of keystrokes will access a whole world, with many authoritative and friendly people with whom to discuss the art of casting our own bullets.

Of course, if you really want to continue groping in the dark or taking baby steps....

As mentioned above there is already a site dedicated to it. The amount of info there is staggering. If you don't want to visit the site because of the term "boolit" you are just limiting yourself. I don't use the word but actively post there. A casting subforum here will be sub par compared to castboolits. Same way that asking questions about Marlin levers here, pales in comparison to the Marlin Owners forum. THR is a general discussion forum. The forums that focus on one aspect are always going to have more info on that particular subject.

A sub forum would be a great addition for new casters, and people that are casting bullets as a utility rather than a hobby, I really like the cast bullets forum but honestly I spend most of my time here because of the variety of other topics covered here as well.

I think there are many casters on this forum with as much or more knowledge than some on castboolits, there just are not as many people on this forum with their level of knowledge and experience.

I think it would be nice to have a sub forum here to facilitate members of THR interested in casting.

Another yes vote, you can't have too much information !

It's a logical step forward for the Reloading-Handloading forum.

I don't mind one way or the other. Thing is a LOT of post about cast bullets in the Reloading forum are often not titled that way so the information doesn't necessarily get passed on to the person asking the question.

As for the names they are referred to on other sites, if "boolits' is REALLY that big of a deal to you, you don't have to go there or use the information that is posted there. I am sure that if your that far above folks having fun with their pastimes, then your probably way past what ever knowledge they may possess anyway.

Many members at the Cast Boolit site use "boolit" as a form of shorthand. If they say "boolit", they are referring to a CAST bullet...and "bullet" indicates a jacketed bullet.

Personally, I don't like the term, but I DO like the site! I consider it to be my "home" on the Internet, followed by THR, which I visit often.

I just left the Cast Boolits site. As I left, there were 1,046 members on-line....at an off-peak time.

There are FORTY-FIVE separate forums there, the vast majority dealing with some specific topic involving cast bullets. Each forum has a list of "stickies" at the beginning, which are important topics within that forum's range. Reading all the stickies on all forums that are of interest will constitute a crash course in bullet-casting that is unavailable almost anywhere else, on paper or on the 'net.

Come on over.... THR will forgive you, and the membership there will have a warm welcome.... and you WILL learn about bullet-casting in very short order.

I'd love to see it.

We have the members to support it.

If memory serves, its been floated as an Idea and shot down before.

Personally, I'd rather stay here, and support our advertisers than go somewhere else... I'm apparently in the minority in that line of thinking.

Everyone just as easily says " Go to XYZ, its great over there ! "

I dun understand why it couldn't just be here.........

That manual lacks in every single aspect. For a first time caster it has basic knowledge. But it doesn't come close to touching anything above that level.

It's a logical step forward for the Reloading-Handloading forum.

Just as casting is a natural step forward for the reloader. :D I know I am seriously looking at it.

And the casters are undoubtedly grinning at this "boolit shortage" like most of us are grinning at the "ammo shortage." ;)

I'm also a member at castboolits, mostly for the swap & sell. But be warned. From what I've read one could easily slide down that slippery slope from hobby to obsession. Just like reloading.:what:

Ummmm.... maybe because that never occurred to the majority? Certainly didn't to me but it's a good point.

I voted yes. I usually come here first, then it's off to castboolits. Seems there's a lot of interest here, just not the forum for it. It would take a long time for THR to catch up with castboolits, and I'm guessing any casting authorities here already post there, so it may just be a duplication of efforts.

castboolits has all the info you need or somebody will answer your casting questions. no need to duplicate and they are not going to duplicate stuff here. never did care for 'hit' style advertizing anyway. do what you want but i'll be on castboolits for my cast question.

kbbailey sez he doesn't want to get info from "a bunch of **** strangers" (on Cast Boolits, I take it).

Interesting. His membership here dates from December 2010.

I'm a "plank owner" at Cast Boolits, member number 47 out of 26,000+.

My membership HERE at THR dates back to 2004. This , to me, gives rise to the question: "Just WHO is the **** stranger?????"

There are many people who read and post on multiple websites. It's perfectly legal and acceptable, and we are free to take part at any site that strikes our fancies.

"I'd rather be hung by my friends than a bunch of **** strangers" = A quote from a movie.

My apologies to the offended.
I have been to castboolits for info.....A splendid site indeed.

a casting sub-forum here would only expand the sources of information on the subject. I think that Castboolits.com is the apex of casting information available on the net right now, but that doesn't mean that other points of view elswhere are any less valid, just as other reloading forums add to the knowledge available to us.
