Has anyone ever made a telescope from old 35 mm camera lenses and used it as a spotting scope?

No, but I took out the telescope portion of a broken survey instrument (total station) and I use it as a spotting scope. One of these days I'll adapt a cheap little tabletop camera tripod so it stands on its own, but for now it is handheld.
