Why does Kel-Tec run these adds? They can even keep the standard black PMR30 in stock & haven't been able to for the last 2 years. The continue to come out with new models and can't supply the ones they have (PMR & KSG). Now they are coming out with new colors for the PMR?

Major league annoying!! Am I missing something?

They seem to heavily focus production on one thing at a time. Last was the KSG, must be the PMR now. I've been looking for a Sub-2000 for years, and the price for one of those on gunbroker has almost doubled in the last 8 months

I can't image in today's market why they waste money advertising anything.

If you sell everything you can possibly make x2 why advertise?

I like Kel Tec but as a company their buisness model annoys me. They could be an industry frontrunner with their name right up there with the most well known.. IF THEY WOULD JUST GROW. As it is I'd love to see one of the bigger fish with production capacity buy kel tec out.

I'll let you in on a secret widely understood in the advertising business but not understood by the general public: it's called "reinforcement of the routine buying decision."

All those Chevy Truck and Ford Truck ads you see on TV and in car magazines aren't aimed only at the folks who don't have a Chevy Truck or Ford truck, but are also aimed at the people who already have those trucks.

Those truck ads are designed to keep existing customers feeling good about what they've done in the past -- because a happy customer is likely to be a REPEAT customer. Ads can also be designed to help keep customers and prospective customers enthused about buying a product at a later time, even if the product isn't available, right now. That may be K-T's plan with those ads... I've been on a PMR-30 waiting list for over a year -- and I'm still waiting. This is one of the few ads I've seen for THAT gun. If may be false hope, but it does give me hope that my wait won't be much longer.

They've had those colored PMR's on the market for months.

Went to the LGS I got my PMR from last summer to get my name on the waiting list for an RMR-30.

Why do they advertise A car that goes 150 mph when there are few roads one can safely or legally drive on that fast. Because the ads keep us dreaming and hoping.

Last time I looked on GB (2-20-13) there were 145 listed for sale, It is not Kel-tec's fault if the distributors and then the dealers are hoarding them to keep the price un-naturally high.
If you look closely many, but not all, for sale on GB are "New old stock" produced 2-3 years ago according to their serial numbers. The real blame should go to those who pay the scalper prices. Kel-tec's current production and shipping of PMR 30's is 2500 per week. In the past certain distributors were getting the lions share of PMR's. In response to valid complaints, like those on this thread, Kel-tec is changing the way distributors receive them so that hopefully they become available through out the country. this is their statement; Guys, just wanted to make you all aware that we don't sell dealer or customer direct. We sell to most all major wholesalers/distributors. To help with shortage, we have implemented a rotation system to these wholesalers to insure that they all get shipments on a regular basis. This is one effort we are making to try to get product out to various parts of the country. Hopefully, this will help get a better saturation nationwide. Please note, various wholesalers sell to dealers based on different strategies. Some sell based on seniority, some on volume, etc. So, if your dealer just says, "well, we can't get it." Then we'd encourage you to shop around. We are pumping out 2500 guns per week on average and this will be increasing as 2013 expands. Just wanted to give you guys a good update and some information.
Hang in there those of you that want a PMR 30, I've bought 2 at below MSRP from a LGS. (one 2 years ago, and one a year ago) As for those like waiting on the RMR 30, don't hold your breath. Kel-tec's facebook page say's they will start production when someone gives them a million dollars for the required tooling. This thanks to the political climate. Let's not forget this has happened to George Kelgren before with the 1994 AWB bankrupting Grendel

Yup, he has a little different perspective than most. Only 4 of their current products would NOT be banned under Feinstein's monstrosity.

The marketing for products they can not provide is my number one gripe with Kel-Tec. I have kind of written them off as a result. Therre are several products of theirs I'm interested in, but I'm sick of trying to find them. I did handle a P11, and was pretty unimpressed with fit and finish. I know some people don't care that much, and the price is low. For my money though I'm going to spend a little more for a nicer gun, THAT IS ACTUALLY IN STOCK in gun stores.

Of course nothing is in stock now.... so.

I agree. Also, this is not a Sandy Hook issue. Kel-Tec could not supply for the 2-3 years before Sandy Hook. I'm in Houston, home of the largest independent chain of gun dealers in the country. I buy a bunch of guns from them. They could not get me a PMR30 & are so annoyed I think they've quit trying. I'm sure someone from Houston will pipe up & say "we'll I got mine" - that's not really the point either. It shouldn't be a search for the Willy Wonka Gold Ticket.

Blaming it on distributors does not hold water. Also, I don't give a flip if they are available on Gun Broker for 4x MSRP. Kel-Tec could pressure/control distributors if they wanted to or they could sell dealer direct. It's their choice!

My choice is to buy guns from manufacturers who have honest business practices and can supply LGS.

I don't see much DISHONEST about Kel-Tec's business practices. And for ALL of those guns you buy from manufacturers, how many offer guns that compete with the Kel-Tec products, in terms of price and functionality? (Only Ruger comes close, with their LCP and LC9.) SCCY seems to be cloning K-T established products, but not their new stuff.

The most recent production totals I can find are from 2010... and they're worth a look http://www.atf.gov/statistics/download/afmer/2010-final-firearms-manufacturing-export-report.pdf

Kel-Tec, despite all the complaints here, is cranking out about 100,000 guns a year. That's a lot. Only RUGER sells guns in volume that competes with the K-T price and function -- the LCP and LC9 -- and they're both knockoffs of the K-T products -- they didn't have to spend a lot of time and money developing the guns, just refining them.

NOBODY offers anything close to the PMR-30, which probably explains the continued demand. (As noted elsewhere, K-T has cranked up their production to about 2500 a month, so we may eventually see a few...)

I wish they offered a better supply of their products, but they are producing more guns than the vast majority of gun makers selling in the U.S., and far more than any other U.S. gun maker (actually making the guns here), except S&W and Ruger.

I'm certainly not going to use the strange logic that Kel-Tecv's inability to deliver a product I want as justification for NOT buying that product when it is finally available.

I've had my PMR 30 for just over a year, after 18 months on a waiting list. Worth every minute, I love it.

Thanks to all who have written Kel-tec off............ I won't have to wait as long when and if the RMR 30 goes into production. I do not know about Kel-tec's other products, but the PMR's are outstanding! I'll buy all I can find for MSRP or below!

What is MSRP now? 18 months ago when I asked about putting one on backorder it was $319

Kel-tec did go up (MSRP) on the KSG (have'nt sold as many units) but not the PMR.

I agree, If I find a product of theirs that I like, I'd still buy it. When I say I've written them off, I mean that if I am looking for a gun to fill a particular role, and considering my options, Kel-Tec does not get considered seriously for me, because I can't find them. I still think they make a well made, practical product. They make some truely inovative products that can fill a need very well.

I found one a few years back and love it. The front sight broke off and with one e-mail they sent another one free of charge. I think they underestimated demand for this one and got behind the eight ball a bit with production form the outset. They are great guns, a bit finicky on ammo, but very accurate and fun to shoot. Good luck to all who are "on the list".
