AK-47 Muzzlebrakes and other extras

I've had my AK (SAR 1) for a couple years and love it dearly.
Lately I've been looking at making improvements ever since I played with an SLR 95.
I've seen several different stock sets and muzzlebrake out there.
I' ve heard pin on muzzle brakes are worthless and threaded is illegal :cuss: (won't go there).
Looking for suggestions on these and any other possible modifications.
Thanks for any help.

Go here, and click on the AK-47.net forums. Some of those folks over there live and breathe AKs. You'll get a ton of info.

Don't know much about muzzlebrakes, but I can recommend K-Var Corp. for stock sets. I put their US Made Polymer Stock (item# AKBSL) set on an SAR-1 and have been very happy with the quality. These are 1.25" longer than standard AK stocks and make for a more comfortable hold. They also still have the spring door in the rear stock for the cleaning kit.

Thanks for the tip do the Kvar's have a shorter set like the originals?
I'm only 5'6" and thoroughly enjoy the shorter stocks.

I had AK-USA install a 74 style brake on my SAR-1. VERY nice. He threads the muzzle, installs his thread adapter, and welds on his brake. Looks great, and is perfectly legal. This is the way to go in my opinion.

Yes, they sell a standard length stock. Check out the stocks on that website. The item # for these stocks are AKBML. Here's a pic:
