I got bored and started browsing the SIG Sauer new releases page and found this:

1911 Spartan (http://www.sigsauer.com/CatalogProductDetails/1911-spartan.aspx)

I'm not sure if I like the helmet on the grips, and I don't know if I could stomach a MSRP of 1356, especially for what it is, but not a bad lookin' 1911 really.

I'm surprised STI hasn't said something about SIG using the Spartan name

I had a chance to see one of these up close and put my hands on it - the finish is truly beautiful; they call it "Oil Rubbed Bronze Nitron" and it's definitely unique, catches the eye without being flashy; the inlay on the slide is very tasteful.

I agree that I would swap out the grips, but I also don't like the aesthetics of an external extractor on a 1911.

Indeed. STI is already used.

Do you know whether they have done anything to legally protect that name?

In any case, I'm a bit surprised sig would want to use the name and risk being confused with STI's budget, entry level, whatever you want to call it, gun.

SIG has managed to do what I didn't think possible - make an ugly 1911. :S

Now that is one good looking 1911, no cooling fins on the front of the slide. no rail to hang things on, just right except for the external extractor, but I would just lay it down on that side anyway, out of sight.

Gross.

SIG needs to fire that intern that came from Ed Hardy.

I looked over $1100+ sample at LGS. I liked the bronze finish very much. Pretty KOOL gun if you ask me. I would buy it if I wanted 1911 style gun.
