Find out who filed it and have the state organizations and voters in that district flood them with letters and emails and make sure they do not get re elected. No politician wants to get a real job.

Filed by Sen. Arthenia L. Joyner. No surprise there.
From the bill:
"A shroud that is attached to the barrel, or that 60 partially or completely encircles the barrel, allowing the bearer to hold the firearm with the nontrigger hand without being burned, but excluding a slide that encloses the barrel."
So, any semi-auto rifle with a forend = and "assualt weapon". And how many semi-auto rifles can you name with slides?
"A semiautomatic pistol, or any semiautomatic, centerfire or rimfire rifle with a fixed magazine, which has the capacity to accept more than 10 rounds of ammunition."
There go the tube-fed .22s.
She specifies semi-auto pistols with, "A folding, telescoping, or thumbhole stock". Stock? On a pistol?
She specifies semi-auto shotguns, "with a revolving cylinder".
And so on. Whoever wrote this crap knows nothing about guns. Morons.

Basically explicitly just banned handguards?

the obvious lack of even a basic understanding of firearms troubles me.. it's like having your auto mechanic pull your teeth.. if they are ignorant of an issue, they should not write laws, how can any sane person think otherwise?

I just wrote to the Senator in my Distict to oppose the Bill. Frankly, given Florida's clear stance on pro-gun laws and self defense, I'm surprised that Senator Joyner would waste her time. Representative Steube just introduced a Bill to allow teachers to be trained and armed. Ms. Joyner's bill stands little chance in making it out of committee.
I don't know about Rep. Steube's bill. There is no reason that I can think of as to why a teacher couldn't be armed if they wanted to be. It would surely be a bad thing if the BG had the only gun around. I can see no reason why a responsible teacher would need to give up the right to lawful self defense when they signed up.

This is Joiner's web site: http://www.flsenate.gov/Senators/s19
Chances are it won't fly but there are a lot of like-minded politicians in the Florida Senate. If you look at her district, you can see why she is safe with legislation like this. Minority/racial/political Gerrymandering at its best!

Collier and Lee county have gone on record stating that LEO will not enforce any new AWB. Contact your rep and sheriff and ask if they will.

All Florida sheriff's signed the letter stating they will not enforce an AWB. Contact all your Rep's and Senators and get this squashed. I called mine on the phone and he said "what?".

Just to play devil's advocate based on the way it is written, if a person was to simply remove the handguards from a rifle it would be perfectly legal according to the "letter of the law."
Basically, all that will happen is people with new rifles will have to use a magazine grip for their front hand.

I already sent out my letters to my Reps. plus this nice little note to MS. Joyner:
I read your Bill and your lack of understanding by the description you used is truly breathtaking. What is even the purpose of this law? Please study your topics a bit more and carefully choose your descriptive words, a law should be carefully written with precision unless generalities was your true attempt. At that I'm more offended and wish you sure and soon defeat of your office.
Talk about Idiot's delight. The further south you get, the deeper it gets. That is why we left WPB and now reside in the glorious pan handle.

It'll likely go nowhere in FL. But, it's a shame that anyone as ignorant about guns as the person submitting that bill can't be fired on the spot for wasting tax dollars. It's just embarrassing to read something like that and know the person who wrote it is actually serious and has no idea what a useless waste of oxygen they are.

When I think revolving cylinder, I think of the Circuit Judge, not the street sweeper.
The street sweeper is already limited and restricted by ATF, the antis can't possibly imagine that the Circuit Judge is similar. Wait... These are the same bunch of idiots that claim air soft toys can be converted to shoot bullets.

Given the compositon and pro-gun postures for the majority of people in the FL Legislature, I would be very suprised if this bill even makes it out of any of the assigned committees.

Normally I would scoff and say this doesn't have legs. But Colorado has caused me to re-think a few things this year.

@mljdeckard,
I understand the concern. Consider one of the committees that this bill will be heard at is the Senate Criminal Justice Committee Charied by Greg Evers. Two years ago, Sen. Evers filed a bill for open carry that didn't go anywhere, but it was close. Given Sen. Joyner is the vice-chair of the Senate Appropriatons Subcommittee for Criminal and Civil Justice, I'm sure she will have an opportunity to sell her bill to others there. All that said, I think it will be a high bar for her to overcome for the bill to favorably advance out of either committee.
As an FYI, both the House and Senate have bill trackers that can automatically update your email if/when there is activity on the bill you are tracking.

Not from that district but hammering our reps here in Central FL. Plus there's the lovely Senator Brilliant from Jax who wants anger management training on all ammo purchases:

HOLY CRAP, did you guys read this bill? It mandates REGISTRATION of all "assault weapons" and only 3 high capacity magazines with the local police. Not only do you have to register the guns, you have to DESTROY any mags other than the three registered with the guns. And I quote:
(a) Notwithstanding ss. 790.335 and 790.336, a person who is in lawful possession of an assault weapon or large-capacity magazine before July 1, 2013, has until December 31, 2013 to do the following without being subject to criminal prosecution for possession of the weapon or magazine:
1. Unless the person is currently prohibited by law from possessing a firearm, immediately register the assault weapon in his or her possession, with no more than three large-capacity magazines, with the department, through the person’s local sheriff, and dispose of any remaining large-capacity magazines in his or her possession by any method listed in paragraph
Additionally, there is a required background check for registering a weapon you already own, and ANNUAL RENEWAL of the Registration!!!!!

I wonder how this would affect NFA assets; I put ALL of my guns into my NFA trust…guess I better call the suits and inquire...

Already wrote my representative but the really weird and super strict wording makes it even scarier. I just don't get whats the point of passing these state laws besides political brownie points. Considering that there is a national debate and law being considered, why even bother passing your own laws at this time
