I have a Lee Classic Turret press that came with the 4 hole turret and indexing.

Seems that there are times when I only need three positions on it.

Would a 3 hole turret fit in it? Did Lee make an indexing rod for the three hole press? Anybody tried this?

The 3-hole turret disk will not fit into the 4-hole turret ring. (I wish it did, I have some 3-die sets that "waste" the 4th station.)

The easiest solution is to simply cycle past the extra staiton. It is convenient to simply short-stroke the press. It is a good idea NOT to reverse direction while the twisted part of the indexing rod is engaged with the square ratchet inside the indexing arm.

I do not know if the 3-hole (original design) Lee Deluxe Turret did auto-indexing. I imagine it did, as the Lee Pro-1000 Progressive press was built around the same base and shared many parts.

I might have some parts left over from when I converted a 3 hole to a 4. I don't know if it would fit a classic press. I know it fit a deluxe. You might look into that.

I load on a 4 hole turret press and for those times I use only 3 dies I just turn the turret past the last hole in the turret. It costs nothing and it's very fast. After the third pull while the ram is only half way down all you need to do is spin the turret one stop and then complete the down stroke to be ready for the next case. Fast and easy with no cost involved...

Use a single stage for awhile. That fourth hole won't seem like such an annoyance :D
Can you use it to add something to your process? Like maybe a flashlight for a powder check between drop and seat?

How about adding a powder cop to the set up?

Ya I like the half stroke to pass it. It changes up the rhythm a bit and gives you time to grab a new brass.

I have a pro1000 and a classic 3 hole, hard to find the turrets for 3 hole right now, I need some but everywhere is back ordered. I saw some torrents at the last gun show but they was all 4 hole.

boostedtwo, give me a pm is a couple of weeks when I get home. I think I still have a stack of 3 hole turrets, maybe even a shell plate carrier or 2.

With a turret press it's completely unnecessary. You only perform 1 function on each pull and you can't double charge a case because of the auto-index feature unless you REALLY try to. Add to that you can look right into the case when placing the bullet on top of the case opening it's almost impossible to make a powder mistake with a Lee turret press, again, unless you REALLY make a very strange mistake...

Just a note, there is a 4 hole conversion upgrade kit available for the 3 hole turret press.

@ under $30 is an economical upgrade for your trusted older press...
