Anyone have any experience with them? I had a tactical shooting class this weekend and one of the instructors (multiple deployment army) had it mounted on his AR. He swore by the sight for the money. It allowed both eyes open shooting which is a must for me.

I prefer the AK platform and i was wondering if anyone had any experience with it mounted on there. I like the ultimak rail but im afraid it will be too far forward.

Thanks,

With both eyes open, you'll be able to focus on a forward-mounted red dot just fine. The only reason I'd be concerned about mounting the Lucid far forward is it's size. It's not a particularly small optic, so I could see it upsetting the balance of an AK. That's why you often see smaller red dots (such as the Aimpoint Micro and Vortex SPARC) forward-mounted on AKs.

You could always get an AK side-rail mount to locate the optic in the more traditional rearward position.

The Lucid is a nice optic for the price. You should also look at the Aimpoint PRO. It's a bit more expensive, but is a much nicer red dot IMHO, and still a huge value for the cost. With its extreme battery life, some of the cost difference will be offset in battery costs if you use it a lot.

Also check out the PK-A from Kalinka Optics (http://www.kalinkaoptics.com). It's Aimpoint-quality at a much lower price point, and there's a version specifically designed for the AK, along with Weaver options.

I've never used on on an AK, but I have a Lucid HD7 on my AR for the last year. Great sight for the money, IMO.

As mentioned, the PK-A is another good option for an AK, if your particular rifle has a side-mount optic rail.

I wouldn't go nearly as far as to say it's "Aimpoint-quality," since, while it is a very well-built,,durable, and easy-to-use optic, it's glass quality, clarity, and battery life can't touch that of an Aimpoint.

Still, it's a great package. Be aware that the PK-A's integrated mount sits a little high and offset to the side, so a typical cheek weld may not be possible.

I too can attest to the HD7 being a great optic on my AR. If weight is a concern on your AK, you might want to check out Lucid's soon to be released M7 which only weighs 4oz.

The Lucid uses one AAA battery which makes it nice. Lucid also has the new M7 Micro Dot which, last I heard, comes out in May. This would probably be better for an AK. The current HD7 is made for the AR platform and sits too high if mounted on an AK.
