Thanks for the heads-up. Just ordered some. While I hate to pay the high shipping and hazmat fees, I can't find pistol primers locally anywhere in northern Virginia. But these will cover four of the calibers I load for.

Great lead. I went to their site and ordered 3x1000 SPP. They said still in stock. I went to checkout and, of course, they had the $27.50 hazmat fee. That was expected, but unreasonable. Then the shipping came to $30 PLUS the $27.50 hazmat for $57.50 total for shipping??!! I did not complete the order and wrote Mr Potterfield an email telling him his shipping is ridiculous and I will not shop his site any more.

I also told him that today I mailed 2 boxes of ammo to out of state buyers thru UPS. It was properly marked and when they asked what it was i told them ammo. 1 box weighed 4# and 1 box weighed 5#. The total to ship each box was about $17. These were shipped to a residence (which is higher for UPS). So, how can I pay $17 to ship ammo and a huge shipper like Midway charges a $27.50 hazmat fee on top of $30 to ship a 2# box? Talk about ripping us off. I'm done shopping at Midway. They can keep their primers and hot deals. They lost a customer because they are ripping us off. I told that to Mr Potterfield. I wrote them once before and he answered my email himself. He is a class act but his shipping pricing is way out of line.

I went back for the product codes for my email and they were out of stock.

Have you ever bought primers or powder online before?

I have purchased ammo online many times but not primers or powder. I understand the $27.50 hazmat fee so why the $30 to ship? It was $57.50 total for 3x1000 primers. It would seem the hazmat fee covers the "special handling" needed and the nature of the item. If they also add on to the actual shipping then why isn't the hazmat fee $50?

Midway has no control over the Hazmat cost and no choice but to ship primers under hazmat rules. The $30 shipping does seem high though. I don't have anything to compare since I always order enough to reduce the significance of the shipping charges.

pretty sure there are some regulations on how hazmat shipments are packed, whenever I order from powdervalley, everything is very tightly packed with shredded paper. My last pv order of 5k srp 5k lpp and 5 pounds of powder was just under $20 to ship.

I bet fedex is making a pretty penny off hazmat recently with all these pieced together orders people are having to do. This past week, I could have ordered anything I would have wanted- spp srp lpp lrp bullseye unique universal 231 hp38 h335 the list goes on, but there would have been been 5 different shipping charges and 5 different hazmat fees :what: ... not that I needed anything anyways, I got my order in mid december

Ive found bartering on armslist very helpful these past few months. for example Im getting a friend started on reloading for 40 and 45. Could have gotten everything he needed component wise if he didnt mind 4 different orders and $200 in shipping and hazmat. Instead, I just told him to buy 10k tula lpp when I saw them available. hes going to keep 3-4k, trade 2k lpp for srp with me, trade primers for powder etc etc. have already made arrangements for trading in for powder. This way people are helped out locally, no back stabbing price gouging going on and only one hazmat has to be paid:)

That $30 shipping does seem pretty high.

Have you ever bought primers or powder online before?

I've bought all mine online, primers in 5k - 20k lots and powder from 8 - 16 lbs. I don't recall ever paying more than $15 for shipping.

3k of primers is about the size of a pack of smokes. $30 is pretty outrageous for shipping something that size and that light, that's about $25 into their pocket.

I've shopped Midway before but I have never bought powder/primers because I know they get them drop shipped from powder valley.

3k primers the size of a pack of cigs? maybe if they are loose and crushed down. maybe 300 primers in package about that size. the smallest brick of primers is about the same size as the largest box of factory 45 ammo you can buy... a good bit taller tho.

$30 for shipping a bit high- yes. are they only spending $5 out of pocket and pocketing $25? no way

beggars cant be choosers in these times. its either pay $30/k plus shipping and hazmat or pay $50-100/k locally. Best thing to do is order max or what you can afford , keep what you need and sell the rest locally at a slight profit to cover your paid in hazmat and shipping that way you are only paying what the site says and you make your neighbors happy that they can get their hands on a brick.

3k primers the size of a pack of cigs?

You are right, I lost my mind. It is the size of a carton of smokes.

It is still not a very big or very heavy package. And yeah, that's still $25 into pocket and not used for shipping.

Im not standing up for midway, but what carrier do you use that you can ship a say 8x8x8 box with 3,000 primers across the country for just five bucks? $15 would be what id expect, $20 would be reasonable. $30? sure its over priced but I highly doubt that they are putting $25 in their pockets off that.

Don't order from midway, thats more of the great things that larry sells for me. Maybe some of you dont realize it, but Larry Potterfield does more for 2A rights than all of us on this forum added together. Last week he gave 1,000,000 dollars to the NRA-ILA. Thats not from the NRA round-up at check out either, thats from Larry and Brenda personally.

Go ahead, bash Larry all you want, I will continue to purchase things I need like Dies, presses, optics, mounts, grips, etc from MidwayUSA. I will not buy powder and primers there because I buy in bulk from other sources, and I dont let myself get caught with my pants down in a situation that leaves me complaining about a great man on the internet.

I've spent money at Midway, they never attempted to rip me off for $30 on shipping anything as piddly as a couple 1000 boxes of primers or similarly sized merchandise, though. If they had it would be the end for me too.*shrug*

There are lots of good places to buy supplies from, and many others do the NRA round up program.
