I have a Swedish Mauser that I am currently restoring. It is not original - (see this thread: http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=584918) - and I want to replace the butt plate with a new one - preferably one with a recoil pad. The one I took off looks just like the middle one in the pic on this: http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=324182206
I was at Cabela's today looking and there are many different ones/brands to choose from. I measured my plate and it is 1 9/16 across at it's widest point, and 4 7/8" long measured on the back mounting surface. Can anybody tell me what I can get to fit this thing? (not looking for an original Fajen - just one that will fit)

You will have to buy a 'grind to fit' size pad slightly bigger then your stock, and grind it to fit the stock.

Nobody can make a butt pad to already fit a custom finished stock like yours, as the orginial pad or butt plate was sanded & shaped down when the semi-finished stock was finished.

They are each and every one slightly different.

Copy that. I saw some of those there yesterday. I was hoping to get lucky and someone would know of an exact fit - but if not I can do the "make it fit" one too. Darn things are expensive though....:eek:
