How long did ruger make these,? Were they over priced,? I know back in 1996 they listed for 327.50..
How did they shoot.,I'm just interested in looking forone.. I bet not many for sale.

I've wanted one for a while now (love lever guns) but I think they stopped producing them a long time ago. I think they made them in .22WMR and .17HMR for a bit longer. I just want a plain old .22LR version...

A little thing called Google tells all. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ruger_96

And as is typically the case, when they made them, no one was buying them, but after they discontinue making them because of lackluster sales, everyone laments their passing and wants one.

I have a 96/22 in 22wmr. It is one of my favorite firearms. Its good for 1" at 50 yards. Being a lever action, its a LOT cleaner to shoot than a regular 10/22. It action is not as slick as a Winchester 94E.

The 9 round rotary mags work flawlessly. The Volquartsen 25 round mags work Flawfully. They can be fixed with a Dremel and a little effort.

I had one of each 22lr and mag and sold both last year for way more than I gave for them. The mag was still NIB and sold for $650 while the lr had been shot and handled and sold for $550.
