View Full Version : How many do you have in your carry line-up

I'm curious about how many guns you guys/girls have in your carry line up. I'm thinking about calling it quits at two. I have a S&W 642 and a Kimber Stainless Compact. Both of which are carried in Milt-Sparks holsters; and VM-II for the Kimber and a PCH-R1 for the S&W. I thought about adding a SP101 but have decided to hold off for a while. My heavy hitter is the .45, and I feel that it'll carry more comfortably that the SP101.

Well I have changed main carry gun over time. First S&W 66-2 then S&W 39-2 (notice a trend?) :) A short time with Springfield 1911 (was not comfortable with condition one. Gun was safe but I was not comfortable. Along the way a couple of mouse guns and now evolved to Glocks.
Every now and again I get a wild hair. Other night I grabbed 1911 to do a business check. Still don't know why. Haven't fired it in over a year but trust it anyway.
I try to stick to same gun. But am not afraid to grab another type IF I want to.

Glock 22 and a Sig P220 both of which are carried in Don Hume IWB holsters. For the Sig I have a Don Hume mag holder I carry OWB weak side.

These are not the only pistols I have but they are the only ones I carry.

3 - which is all that the law allows in the PRK. Since I'm a fairly low rent kiinda guy, my main carry is a Star PD, bug is a FEG PA-63. Also have a compact Witness in .45, is on permit but too bulky to carry.
Saving up for a Para Companion, tho.

Pretty much just two. One is for the pocket and the other is for IWB. The pocket gun (.32ACP) is an "always carry" and the 1911 .45 is a 98% carry.

I alternate carry between a xd-9 and a 1911 for primary, and will soon be adding a browning hi power. I have a s&w 642 and a keltec p32 for unusual occasions and backup guns, and that rounds out my carry rotation. Some day would like to get a kahr pm9 for work and dress occasions, but for now I use the jframe and keltec.

Somehow I have crept back over to revo's (my first love I guess) ..... was SP-101 but currently am enjoying having a M28-2, 4" on board. Maybe I should now be ''M28Carry'' :p

I will tho readily pack either of the P series ... but then have to consider having to deal with hot weather - that is on the way soon. Guess there will be a progression according to dress and so, concealability. May use Mak, then Bersa - getting a tad smaller ya see! And finally may have to resort to pocket with P3AT.

Bersa often available in a fanny pack as bug BTW .... or even when baggy pants ... in ankle rig.

Hmmm .. that's 7! :D

Primary carry: normally a Glock 23, but like P95Carry, I've been going senile and wandering back to the revolver aisle lately! :D I've got a nice pair of S&W's, a Model 13 and a Model 65, in .357 Magnum, and they're frequent companions. Occasionally, if I feel in a .45 ACP mood, I'll carry a SIG P220.

Backup carry: pocket guns, normally a Colt Cobra or S&W 442 or 642. Occasionally, a Kel-Tec P3AT. In really hot weather, I might go with two backup guns instead of a primary and a backup, for ease of carry and concealment.

Three.

Primary gun is a 1911, commander size.
Secondary is a Kel-Tec P11 for the work commute.
Tertiary is Kahr P9...extreme backup in case of parts breakage on either of the above guns.

First and third are belt holsters, Galco and Alessi...second is dropped into the waistband...If I can somehow manage to accidentally fire the Kel-Tec, I probably deserved it. ;)

Not sure at the moment how many carry guns I have. Some I may not have seen since the last clean and inventory of the safes--------My always is a P 3AT, carried IWB with the belt clip. I change around a lot with my primary depending on time of year and clothing, I might be found carrying anything from a 4" Mdl 29 to a Kimber Custon Stainless Target, and anything in between. Now I remember where my retirement money went!!!

Full size 1911 and a 442. Carried a Kahr P40 off-and-on for a while, but I never really got the hang of shooting it. It's retired now and for sale. I need to devote my scant practice time to the carry guns and the fun guns.

The Kahr was not un-fun to shoot, but I just wasn't good with it.

I like so many of mine, that I carry quite a few different ones. The Most often carried lately, is a Model 65 Smith that I had some extra worke done on. I also tote the 1911s, a couple of Browning HP, in 9mm or .40 S&W. Another 9mm I like is the little CZ 75D PCR. I rotate through several different Taurus CH 85, and Smith J frames, in two or three inch. My Mountain guns, in .44 mag and .45 Colt get carry time, as well as some of my 6 inch N frame Smiths.
I shoot them all often, each rides in good quality leather, and I feel absolutly comfortable with any one of them. .38 Special is the low side of what cartridge I will use though. I used to carry a Colt Pony Pocketlite, but every time I had even the remotest hint that it would be needed, I got a sinking feeling in my gut, that I had picked the wrong carry gun that day. I got rid of it.

I like the 1911 and the 642 for the fact that the trigers are either SAO or DAO. I get thrown off when the first shot is DA and the follow up shot is SA with a totaly different feel of the triger between the first shot and the second. I feel that that would be greatly potentiated of a stressfull defensive situation. I guess that is why I'm sticking with those two.

Three: my main carry gun is a pre-agreement Smith & Wesson model 60 .357 magnum; my infrequent carry gun is a Walther PPK .380 A.C.P., taken when the revolver would be too bulky; when concealment isn't a major issue—I live in an open carry state, after all—I pack a four-inch Python in a hip holster.

Occasional cold weather IWB or Road Trip car gun - CZ-75 or CZ-40B

So that gives me 5 or 6 to choose from

3 1911s, Glock 23, Kahr P9 Covert and whichever P32 I owned at the time have covered me 99.9% of the time with one of the 1911s and the P9 serving probably 95% of that.

I've carried probably five others just for a day or two... just to see how they carried more than anything... Combat Commander, Taurus PT99, 85CHULT, couple EAAs and CZs...

Stainless P95 in a SmartCarry or strong-side OWB. For variety, blued P95 OWB.

Why confuse things?

(Okay, I admit, I have lusted in my heart for a pocketable Kahr.)

I am, however, looking for a good LH IWB and OWB for the P95. Seems that LH holsters are plentiful, and Ruger holsters are plentiful, but LH Ruger holsters are somewhat rare. Bummer.

My previous county allowed three firearms on a CCW. My current county also allows three. Since it is a forgone conclusion that the firearms on your CCW may eventually marked for confiscation you might resign yourself to that fact and don't get carried away with bells and whistles. Keep the carry firearm as nearly stock as possible with a sturdy trigger pull, no light triggers, no disabled safty device, nothing that would convict you in court.

When I worked for a fed agency we contracted to have all firearms thourghly checked over on an annual basis. I would bring my personal carry firearms in and have them gone over after the duty arms were complete. The $15 involved for each piece was a minimal insurance to pay for having a professional gunsmith check them out.

As for my personal preference, the tried and true 1911 pistols have long been a favorite. I use a Colt Commander in winter and in summer I may carry it in another special carry manner that is not likely to upset sheeple when you walk through the park or mall.

For total warm weather it is comfortable to carry a P11 with 10 rounds of 9mm HP. It is easy to conceal and unless you are a trained person it is invisible.

The last piece is a 3" S&W revolver in .357 Magnum. I usually carry that with .38+P rounds. It is reliable and just an all around gun to have as a back up if need be. I could get something in a 9mm revolver but 9 mm is not the most ideal round in the first place.

Am I correct in assuming that a knife is carried as well by those that carry a firearm??? Knife selection is getting more critical and some cities here and in some countries abroad the knife is being viewed almost like a WMD! Great Britain, Australia and Holland are becoming very restrictive and carrying or even owning one is becoming prohibitive.

Keep the carry firearm as nearly stock as possible with a sturdy trigger pull, no light triggers...

I disagree. In the unlikely event I'm ever called upon to use my carry gun for something other than target practice, I want to be able to shoot it quickly and accurately, and in my case, that includes a smooth, light trigger. One of the reasons I've never considered a plastic gun is that they have such mediocre—at best—triggers.

W Turner
March 15, 2004, 11:45 AM
For me it depends on what carry method I am using...

IWB- RIA 1911 in a Milt Sparks SS
OWB- Glock 20 or CZ75b in a Don Hume belt-slide
pocket- KT P3AT....may be replaced by a .38 snubbie in the future...

As soon as I can get a friend of mine to make me a kydex holster for my SW 296, it will be my primary carry gun and my rotation will be down to that and the KT P3AT. The main reason I have considered going to a snubbie for my pocket gun is so that I will be using the same weapon type (DA revo) all the time.

I would carry a revolver if concealment were not a problem. Since semis are more concealable, I usually carry one of them. I usually carry when I really think I may need one, and have one in the car otherwise. I have generally carried a Smith 5906 with a Ramline Mag giving 18 in the gun. This is a little thick because of the double stack grip, but I have stuck with it because of endless testing and absolute reliability of the combo. I recently purchased a Star BM that may take the place in some instances, with a single stack, and smaller size.
Gotta test though, and reliability confidence comes slowly. I think that there is no substitute for thorough testing of a semi with the ammo that you are gonna use in the gun.

A 649 "always" gun in the front pocket. That's usually it in the summer, but depending on weather, expected activities, and my mood, I tote a S&W 65 3", 629 3", 547 3". If not a revo, then a Colt LWC, or a G19 IWB. On rare occasions (like what, I don't know) a 9mmMak, either EG or Bulgie. Don't have a good MakHolster, tho, so that's kinda limited. I think if I ever got some decent leather for it, I might start totin' a CZ-75B.

My primaries are all 1911's in .45 acp......
1) Lightly modified Government
2) Lightly modified LW Officer's
3) New (to me) CCO which is becoming my fave.
4) Occassional carry of Para LDA Companion

5) Twenty year old Commander. mostly retired.
6) Highly modified Government, early 80's IPSC gun, gets to come out of the safe every now and again. As I have gotten older, I have learned to prefer simplicity

All are carried in a variety of rigs, strong side 3 to 4 o'clock depending whether I am Off duty or on. Favorite is the Milt Sparks VM2H, but a belt silde and accumold paddle rig gets used alot too.

Back up is a S&W M37-2, mainly in the left trousers pocket, but it has been known to ride at 0ne o'clock in an IWB, or in a jacket pocket in winter.
Been trying out Miladies PM9 and I might be looking for one of these as a BUG/Always Gun in the future.

The 1911 is 95% carry, the .38 is just in case.

I'm kinda curious about the couple of us who are carrying Browning Hi-Powers. I loooooove my BHP, but haven't been comfortable carrying it for years. I probably created my reluctance however. A number of years ago, I added an extended, ambidextrous safety. Since then I have been unable to find a holster that has a thumbbreak flexible enough to get between the hammer and the slide, yet firm enough to re-holster one-handed. A couple of times, I've had a firm thumbbreak actually work the safety off--There I was with a hot, unsafetied BHP on my belt. Not good.

So most often, when I do carry, I carry my Glock 23c IWB with an extra mag. At the times when I need more discretion, I break out Mrs. AZLib's Walther PPK in a cheap IWB rig I have.

I have 4 pistols that I can carry comfortably. 3 Steyrs, and my new little 637 J frame. What I carry is usually changes depending on what I am planning on wearing. Since it is still pretty cold here in WI I could easily carry my P89 if I wanted to, but I usually just stick with my Steyr S40 when I am wearing something a little more bulky. This summer I am planning on carrying my 637 in a Don Hume IWB holster.

I decided that I need to start practicing more with drawing my carry piece and shooting quickly at multiple targets. That is something I will be working on next weekend.

Haven't heard anybody mention REDUNDANCY yet

Nevada requires you qualify each time you renew your CCW.

For any gun you qualify with to carry you must list the following:

MAKE

MODEL

CALIBER

But not serial number.

EXAMPLE: I presently carry a snubby S&W and and am building redundancyin that line.

If I must shoot someone with ( say just for example ) a S&W model 36 in 38 spl., the gun will surely be taken by law enforcement. I will, I trust, be released without charges, but the gun will likely remain in their custody for a while. I intend to have a redundant 36 waiting for me at home.

I had a 10/55 380 Browning auto in near excellent shape on my license. I got rid of it due to unease at the idea of carrying a striker fired auto chambered with a safety that was difficult to place on safe, but brushed the safety off with the next thing to a mere hard look. The point is, I had another 10/55 nib unfired at home.

I now have a CZ83 listed in the Brownings place. Guess what?

russlate,
I definitly beleive in redundancy, but i havent found the "perfect" platform yet for me to start buying multiples of. I do have guns with similar triggers(single action) for all my primaries. Plus, Virginia doesnt require us to qualify or list our weapons.
