American, German in brawl
over Iraq in Cebu

CEBU - An American tourist was knifed and wounded by a German man in the central Philippines in a bar brawl over the raging issue of Iraq, police said Monday.

Police detained Frank Oesterle after he stabbed American John Flynn with a Swiss knife on Friday, Superintendent Maximo Calimlim, the provincial police chief in Cebu City said.

The 41 year-old American is confined at a Cebu hospital with multiple stab wounds, but his life is not thought to be in danger.

Calimlim said Flynn and Oesterle, a 37 year-old economist from Munich, met at a bar in the beach resort of Moalboal near here and started arguing their countries' respective positions over UN Security Council resolutions on Iraq's weapons of mass destruction.

Oesterle, interviewed by a local radio station inside his jail cell, said he had told the American that he was against a threatened US-led attack on Baghdad because "many people will die if the US makes good its threat."

He said he regretted what happened, admitting both men were drunk when they started the argument.

Oesterle said a fistfight followed. The last thing he remembered was he was down on the floor with Flynn sitting on top of him.

"When you're on a holiday, you better speak about nice food, beautiful women and white beaches," said the German, who said he would ask the American to forgive him. He would also urge police not to press charges.

He would also urge police not to press charges. ROFL. Of course he will urge the police not to press charges. If I ever attack someone with a knife I would urge them not to press charges too. My guess is they'd ignore said request.

Never gave a second thought to drinking with American military and our allies during and in Vietnam, and never had a problem.

When drinking with varied civilians, you always knew that their objective was to clean you out. Made things interesting....

Nice going Kraut loser.:fire: :fire: :fire:

Many of the Euros that go to the P.I. do so in order to have sex with little children. That one would stab someone should come as little surprise.

Lemme get this straight.

He tried to stab somebody to death, in the name of pacifism.

:scrutiny:

Wasn't that a line from a Woody Allen movie?

"My father was killed in a bayonette fight with a Polish pacifist."

I honestly don't think it matters that this occurred in a bar.

There are a lot of Germans who believe the USA is "Evil". I have lived here for almost a year and really can't stand how they look down their noses at us.

It seems every stinking weekend they are protesting against the war effort. I am getting so tired of hearing on the German channels how our president is a "Cowboy" and "war monger".

Americans band together and "Let's Roll" across Iraq.

You have to understand the run of the mill German is so brainwashed as to the US that you will never convince them otherwise except by your own exemplary conduct.

Germans are taught (and mostly believe in my experience) that the gomt is right and the individual is wrong. They lose no sleep about somebody who disappears into the night and fog. "Must've been a criminal," they reason. Just the opposite of what we believe in the USA.

They tend to go to the socialist model because they think, "Heck, they get all my money in taxes anyway, I mizewell get something back for it." There you get the cradle to grave nannystate mentality, imho.

Germans can apparently never get enough of having their ***** kicked, individually or collectively, by Americans.

This particular German needs a lesson in the ethics of debate. I believe knifing your opponent is considered an ad hominem attack ... no?
"Now hold on here ... that's a logical fallacy!"
"FALLACY THIS, AMERICANISCH SWINEHUND!"

Still, I don't think because this particular German knifed someone over a debate about the benefits of peace we should judge all the Germans to be violent pacifists. T'ain't so. In fact, the Germanic peoples have done much to help the economy of this great nation, including throwing extravagant wars all across the kind host nations of Europe to give America a financial boost.

I can't agree with the All Euro Businessmen are Brainwashed Pedophiles and Probably Nazis at That group.

Two grown men fighting over whose country is right. Never talk about sport, politics, or religion when drinking. The results are obvious at times.

Germany was the "hun" in two world wars. They lost both. For some reason a lot of Germans took that to mean that pacifism is the way to be because war sure didn't improve their lot in life. I can understand their position. Of course most of the German military guys I have met have been pretty cool people. My friend Hubert hated the fact that he had to leave his .45 in Germany too.

The Germans also have lots of laws to keep anyone even remotely like the Nazis from coming to power. Thats why Scientologists aren't trusted or treated well in Germany, a position I wholeheartedly support.

I'm a little flabergasted that so many folks are taking this stupid act of drunken brawling (complete with slicing) as indicicative of an entire nation. One of our own moderators, Lendringser, grew up in Deutschland. True, he came to the U.S. and got U.S. citizenship, but he's no brainwashed fool. There's lots of fine folks there, as anywhere. (Same as there's plenty of fools and hucksters in my own sweet land of liberty.)

Taking some drunken fool to represent his nation would be like taking Ted Kennedy to represent his nation. But I repeat myself...

A pocket knife?

Thats prolly because Flynn knocked his dumb *** out cold.

I saw a TV report on the incident just now.

Flynn indicated that he sat on top of Oesterly, mentioning that he'll let go the pinned man if the German stopped fighting. Flynn thought the Oesterly was merely punching his left butt, when actually he was already being stabbed four/five times..

in the butt, of course... :D

And it was not a Swiss knife, more like a tactical 4-inch folder.

Ouch... :(
