Does anyone have experience with the kit which lets one fire .40 with the P-11 frame/grip? Are there any disadvantages to using the kit rather than buying a complete p-40?

Thanks,

Drakejake

I guess a disadvantage would be the price although I don't recall exactly what they for but they're not particularly cheap as the converson requires a slide, barrel, recoil spring and magazine. P-40s haven't been made in a couple of years so the conversion may be cheaper than finding a P-40 in good condition.

I've had the 40 cal conversion kit for quite a while.

It kicks pretty good and is somewhat hard on the gun.

The 40 cal broke the ejector.
The cases were still ejecting except for the last shot.
A call to Kel Tec got me a new one.

I've heard of some people having trouble using the 9mm magazine for 40 cal but my three work OK.

At first I had a problem with the side of the bullet hitting the slide lock and locking the slide back at random.

I tried squeezing the slide lock with a pair of pliers to give the bullet more room.
The slide lock broke, so the slide wouldn't lock back after the last round.

I called Kel Tec and told them since I broke the slide lock I'de like to buy another one.
They sent one free of charge.

The 40 cal works trouble free so I haven't replaced the slide lock and of course the slide doesn't lock back after the last round.

I mostly just put the conversion on the gun if I'm going to carry it, which isn't often.

I thought the conversion kit was discontinued along with the P40.

Is the kit still available?

I had one for awhile. Got it at the factory in Cocoa. After four, count 'em, four returns to the factory, they finally bought it back from me.

Never could get the blasted thing to feed.:cuss: New magazines, fluff & buff, nothing. To add insult to injury, they claimed it would work fine, that I was limp-wristing it. Never got it to feed a full magazine, and usually jammed on the 3d round. Limp-wristing wouldn't cause that.

As far as I know, they've quit making or selling them. For good reason. :fire:

Some of them may have worked, but mine never did. Caveat Emptor!

Yes, there are still some P-40 conversion kits for sale.
