A friend wants to trade a 1960 Winchester 30-06 for my Kimber 84m classic select in 308. I already own a Remington 660 in 308. so i am thinking how many lightweight 308 rifles do I need. If given the choice would you choose the Remington 660 or the Kimber 84m? Remington is a bit more accurate the Kimber is a bit lighter.

Unless the '60 Winchester is something rare... that doesnt sound like a fair trade to me. Now maybe he's your buddy and you arent concerned about that, but I'd definitely check out the values. .30-06 vs .308 really are very similar ballistics with a slight power edge going to the .30-06.

If you couldnt tell yet.... I'd keep the Kimber.

Kimber or Remington? That's easy, Kimber.

The Winchester is worth about $500-$600. The Kimber about $900-$1,000. The 660 is a carbine with a short barrel, but hardly a lightweight. The Kimber is a true lightweight with enough barrel to get full performance. Unless I were going to get $400-$500 in boot there is no way I'd make that trade.

I'd keep the Kimber even if values were equal.

USMC;

I'm a pre-64 kinda guy, but unless that 1960 model 70 is NIB, I don't believe I'd do the deal either.

I would pick the most accurate of the two, so long as it is reliable.

I would keep the Kimber 84 and try to buy the Winchester Model 70.

Or you could trade the Remington for the Winchester. :)

Sometimes deals on things that you like come around. Sometimes those deals, though they might be things you want, are not good deals. But the shiny new rifle can persuade you. That's why places like this can be good sounding boards to throw a question at.
