i got me a Russian red dot....the PK-A Venezuela model. i love it. it is on par with Aimpoint in the quality department. very rugged, built like a tank. nobs and dials are crisp. military grade to say the least. what i really like is that it is made for the AK and i dont sacrifice the aesthetic nature of my AK by putting a modern looking optic on there. this dot does have modern technology however. takes one AA battery and puts out 1,000-3,000 hrs.......not bad for a commie dot. it sits low enough to co witness irons and is lined up perfectly over the bore. i had an Aimpoint comp4 and this is very similar.....only this one just feels right on my AK. thought i'd share, for anyone looking for a quality red dot that is made for an AK.....

The regular one appears to take two watch batteries instead of AA, which cuts the battery life by a huge margin. On the flip side, Kalinka claims the standard model has a black dot, which means you might not need the battery during daylight hours. It is a 1MOA dot, so it might be too hard to pick up without the bright dot assistance, though.

Does the Venezuala model have a non powered black dot?

Either way, looks pretty sweet. I've never liked the Ultimak setup, but till I saw this I thought it would be the only way to co-witness effectively. Downside is of course the need to take off the optic for cleaning- does it hold a decent zero after re mounting?

About $240 after shipping.

Edit: This optic looks good on an AK, but it is not a quality piece according to the reviews.

Edit#2: The Venezuelan versions have a better mount than the original.

After a little research, I discovered I was wrong. The regular PK-A listed at KalinkaOptics is not as directly related to skipBo's Venezualan as I thought. In addition to the battery difference, the other PK-A sits far off to the left side of the rifle, and appears to be a slightly different kind of optic.

Skipbo, I really like your choice. I'm definitely going to keep my eyes out for one of these. Also, gorgeous rifle :-p

putting a western looking optic on there.
Fixed it for ya ;). I think the Aimpoint design actually predate the PK-A. Overall great sight. Swing by Russianoptics.net (http://russianoptics.net/PK-A_Venez.html) to learn more about your sight. Expect about 3700 hours of run time on a regular battery, and probably about 5,000 on a lithium.
