A book? An influence.

I have been buying and donating evil pornography to my local library. Books about firearms. NRA stuff, CAS books, gunsmith books and S&W and Colt reference books. When I retired from a career in law enforcement I began by donating Shooters Bibles and other reference materials. Do any of my fellow THR members donate firearms pornography to their local library? They even have Guns & Ammo on the periodical shelf. Are there suggestions for books to donate? I figure I am giving up one firearm purchase a year to place good reference material in the library.

In my experience, donated books do not necessarily end upon the library's shelves. Many are relegated to book sales.

I recommend asking a librarian whether a particular book will be placed in circulation before donating.

Good thought, though.

Another thought: If a particular book isn't in their collection, SUGGEST IT!

Only after I requested it did my county library branch order John Lott's "The Bias Agaist Guns."

I actually found my library glad to get the books. I did request a few books to be placed in the reference only section. They cannot leave the library. I snuck a few in as memorial gifts to the library. What surprised the library was that the books have been popular. The library has been happy to see the numbers.

Good work Josey. You've planted seeds in the minds of others. In your case, the books didn't wind up on the fund raising table.

Mpayne is correct in that some libraries take donated books and sell them for fundraising. They do this if the librarian determines that it isn't needed. I've donated a few books myself but I didn't care whether they sold them or not. I've also picked up some useful books including a gun book or two for members here.

Hey, that's a great idea, Josey. I've never thought about that.

My wife is a schoolteacher, and we have donated Christian books to her school's library.
