Them darn doubles just ain't accurate!!!

Hey guys,
I just thought I'd like to try a dispell the old rumor on doubles and poor accuracy.
Once you find a load that they'll shoot they get to be pretty darn usable.
This group was shot behind a load of H4350 97grs and a pair of 500gr Barnes solids for a Muzzle Velocity of 2158 Fps.
The rifle is a Searcy .470NE Box Lock Ejector Field grade double with 24" tubes. The sights are shallow express v sights of the old english type.
I shot this group leaning over the hood of my truck as I find benching the big Nitros to be be a bit uncomfortable. I shoot them better from a standing position.
In any case this rifle is regulating both barrells from this load into about 1.25" at 75 yards.
I'm as happy as a pig in mud. :D
Sorry to bore you guys with this I'm just all tingley and sparkley over this. kinda like watching your kid score her first goal;)

That sub 1" group from a nitro is from a double at 75 yds? With open sights?
Good shooting. I know some guys with scoped bolt action '06's that can't get groups better than that from the bench.

H&H,
Looks like you got a sweet shooter!
If those holes are L barrel R barrel it might be punching singles at 90 or so yards. :D
Know how you feel about your kid, for me it was watching her throw a complete game no-hitter.

I find benching the big Nitros to be be a bit uncomfortable. I shoot them better from a standing position. As a matter of interest . . . during the heyday of the big Brit doubles, the Brit riflemakers found that shooting from a sitting position was . . . abusive. Particularly considering the number of rounds that had to be fired during the regulation process.
So . . . they invented the "standing" rest.
Duh.
;)
(BTW . . . two shots don't make a group. How about showing us how SIX shots print . . . that's only three from each barrel. :neener: )

Are swarovski binoculars the right optics for a scope on that double? Might help you tighten that group a little.:D

Since the axis of the barrels are set closer together than 1.25 inches, I'd kind of guess that the path of those bullets cross somewhere before 75 yards.
You might get single hole groups somewhere closer, maybe 50 yards.
Why don't you try lightin both fires at once an see if the bullets collide in mid air. I'm sure the recoil won't distract you from watchin or anything ;)

That is pretty impressive, but I agree - two shots ain't a group.
I suggest a one hundred shot group fired in less than an hour, with before and after photo's of your shoulder. You could also use your bank statement as a target.

Why does he need more shots than two for a group?
Anything not killed by those 2 shots will probably kill him before he can get off 2 more ;)

All righty then, For all of you guys out there who are suggesting that I may be a recoil panzy.......:D
Here's another target, Now before you go hollering reregulate for elevation I purposley shot the right barrel to a lower point of aim to check for cross over.
So the groups you're looking at are individual barrel groups to different points of aim.
Look at the two holes at the bottom of the target. That is a dramatic example of what happens when you shoot a non regulated load. They are a good 6" low and spread out left to right not crossed over. The slower your load is the wider they'll spread too fast and they cross over.
